Update I revisited the salon and had a much better experience. My hair is now fixed and is exactly how I wanted it! Plus, I have all the knowledge to see it thrive from here on out! We’re all human but she took accountability and corrected it which I admire.
Haircut: The cut itself is okay. I do like the round shape in the back, however, the layers in the front do appear choppy. The more my hair produces volume, the more I notice that 1 side of my hair layers are shorter than the other side. I have no idea how my hair was cut or what could’ve been fixed because i was asked to close my eyes while she cut which was different. I also noticed when i got home to a mirror how much length was actually cut. I asked that length be kept but shaped up. My hair was breast length before and is now a little past my collar bones when stretched. I do feel like i would've been more satisfied trying a tiktok trend.
Experience: My first impression was a bit unsettling. I walked in very excited but also nervous being that this was my first curly cut. I was told to come in, sit my stuff down, and stand at a wall. At this point I no longer felt excited as a first timer because of the very dull and forceful greeting i received. It felt like strictly business not a service. I was almost scared to ask questions because of the energy. It was very awkward and quiet for awhile when it felt like she was more interested in watching tv than doing my hair. I tried to start a conversation by asking about the show but it didnt seem like she was interested in conversating so i sat there quiet. She did not ask about my hair past, products, or anything to better understand my hair or its needs. I thought this was a customized experience to correct my understanding of how hair thrives. I do know what products to use but i don’t know why i should use them or how they benefit my specific hair. It feels like i left with the same knowledge i had before i came in. I dont feel like i gained anything during this experience but a product list. I expected to walk out with the knowledge to make my hair thrive. I mainly booked with her because of her knowledge and great content presented on instagram. I feel like it was not worth my time or money. Maybe my expectations were too high for a $300 hair cut but i expected a way better experience. I am a college student and i thought investing into this service would make my life easier and would save money in the long run. I do understand that i booked for a “curly cut” and not the “hands on” experience but gesh it felt like strictly business… Like Get in and Get out. I have a ton of experience in customer service so when getting any type of service i hope to feel welcomed and comfortable. I like to develop a relationship with my stylist so that i can continue to return but this experience didn’t make me want to return. The customer service lacked and wasn’t pleasant. It feels like i paid for something that i thought would be luxurious but was completely let down by...
Read moreI wish I could actually review the service. However I cannot as Angel never was able to fulfill an appointment time. I was in town for the weekend and wanted to get a rod set to oastvme through the week. I found Angel and booked a consultation (as required for new customers for $15) and a rod set, online for 4:00pm and 4:30pm respectively. At 2:39pm, she called me saying that no one will be able to accommodate and asked if I can wait until 8pm. Unfortunely, this was not feasible for my schedule. She then told me to come in at 3:30pm. At 3:09, while I was on my way to get dropped off at the salon (which is not named Earnestly Natural by the way), and she called telling me that someone WOULD be able to accommodate my original appointment at 4pm. I then told her that I was on my way anyway. I arrived there at around 3:15 and was told to wait in the waiting area. She was working on someone’s hair and long story short, an entire hour went by and she still hadn’t even washed my hair. I asked her if she knew how much longer before she started me, her response was, “I really don’t know”. Mind you, at that point, her other client was under the steamer, she could’ve at least washed and conditioned me in that time. At that point I asked her if she had any other appointments available for the following day and she told me to come in at 5:00am! That clearly is far too early for a Sunday appointment and we agreed on 7:30am. Around 11:00pm she texts me and says, “Please come at 8:30 instead of 7:30”. I respond that’s ok. We actually eventually ended up rescheduling it until 10:30am. I arrive to my appointment at 10:20 and the salon is locked so I wait back in my car and text her to let her know I’m there. I received no response. At 11:01am (30 mins later), I call Angel and she did not answer. At this point we are 30 mins past the 3rd re-scheduled appointment and she hadn’t even called or texted me to let me know that she would be late or not showing up.
To make a long story short, I ended up making another appointment at another natural salon around the corner. So grateful that they are able to accommodate me on a Sunday! Angel eventually called me back to re-schedule yet a 4th time (in less than 24hrs), I tell her I’m going else where and that I will need my deposit back. She asked for my CashApp information and promptly refunded me the money.
Although she had several good reviews, her level of professionalism in my experience is shocking and unacceptable. I will add that she was not rude and was very polite during the back and forth, however, I will not be returning or recommending her...
Read moreI was a little disappointed with my elevated curl experience. I found her via Instagram and I loved her energy immediately but her warm energy wasn’t the same in person. When I first walked in, she didn’t introduce herself or asked my name, she just told me to sit down. She was super rough when washing and detangling my hair. I heard my hair ripping.
One thing I can say is that she was very knowledgeable about natural hair and I trusted her suggestions for my hair but the tone of the conversation was very harsh. I asked for her opinion about my hair and what option I should pick and I was told “I get paid either way”. This was my first time meeting her so I was a little taken back and I felt belittled and uncomfortable. She talked to me like I was her child.
I knew I needed my hair cut possibly but I felt cornered into my decision and I didn’t feel comfortable in that space. I don’t know if she was just having a bad day but her attitude wasn’t the best. There was another client there when I was there and when Angel stepped out of the room for a few minutes, the client started to cry because the tone of Angel’s voice, which was harsh. If I didn’t do something correct with my hair, she would kind of get frustrated.
Overall, I am on the path to healthy hair now but I have decided her attitude is just not worth it to come back for more assistance. Hair can be a sensitive topic for some people and a hairstylist should make sure their clients feel safe and welcomed in their salon. She was very informative but there is a better/nicer way to present information. This was my first time getting assistance from a hairstylist and I felt so uncomfortable and hopeless after.
Her videos on Instagram displayed a whole different experience than what I experienced. I wish did more research before driving 2/3 hours to see her. The first red flag was when I didn’t even get an initial greeting and she never asked for name during the whole appointment. Also the day after, my hair had white residue all over it from the products and I ended up washing my hair again when I got home. I came in with shoulder length hair and came out with a buzz cut that was done by a barber close by (who was awesome, super nice, and asked for my name). She told me to walk back over once he was done with my hair. All I know is that my experience wasn’t worth $400 because I didn't have much hair at the end of my appointment. I never heard of a hair wash and a buzz cut costing that much. We live and we...
