Truckee is so lucky to have The Roundhouse! What an incredible resource in this mountain town. It’s rarer for there to be a maker space where you live if you’re not in a big city, so this space was kind of miraculous to discover!
The motto here is “What will you make?” and there is plenty of opportunity to discover and develop your inner maker, from classes to workshops to the annual Maker Show.
There are member events that build community and amazing work done with other local nonprofits and schools. I’ve learned to sew, make overalls, create ceramics, encaustic art, rope bowls, beginner wood projects.
What I appreciate is the commitment to intentionality and communal responsibility - you can’t just drop in and do a same day orientation. There is a weekly tour you can book and a process to bring on new members, which is in place to make sure people are aware of the rules and approved to use the tools they want to use. Stewardship and respect are important.

I walked in nervous with absolutely no idea how to work a sewing machine, and walked out with beautifully repaired jeans and the confidence to continue learning.
