This review is specifically for Sam Bickel of Lighthouse fitness who conducts personal training at 10gym on 4818 E 81st St. The gym itself is good and I don't have any complaints regarding the gym. However I wanted to post a review about Sam's treatment of me so that other people don't go through my experience. Sam is completely unempathetic and all that he cares about is your money. He initially tried to get me to sign up for a 12 month membership to their personal training services. Thank God I didn't sign up for it and he agreed to let me sign up for their 3 month program. My heart condition worsened after I signed up (not because of anything that they did). This entailed me visiting urgent care and getting an EKG done. My doctor advised me to not engage in rigorous exercise since I was put on beta blockers. My EKG clearly said "abnormal" in the diagnosis. I was told that I could pause my personal training briefly in such a situation. I was already going through a difficult time due to my heart condition and I contacted Sam about it. He said that he would not pause my training program without a doctor's note. I sent him a copy of my EKG which showed my diagnosis and said "abnormal" on it. Still Sam refused to believe me. He told me that people lie about this all the time and therefore a doctor's note was required as per his company policy. So this is what Sam thinks about his clients - that his clients are liars. I sent him my doctor's note today. My doctor was surprised that they were asking for a note and didn't believe me despite me sending them my EKG. I don't know if this has anything to do with my gender and ethnicity or if this is just how he behaves with every client. Please know that Sam Bickel doesn't care one bit about you as a client. All he wants is your money for his company. He doesn't care if you have a heart condition and have a heart attack due to overexertion. He just wants to ensure that the money keeps flowing to his organization. I just want you all to know what kind of person you are dealing with when you interact with Sam. Don't be fooled by his pretense. I also want to clarify that so far, I have had one training session with Kris Koors and she was amazing. She was truly empathetic and a great person. She was very helpful, kind, encouraging and understanding. I would highly recommend her as a personal trainer. But please beware of Sam and stay away from him.
Update: After I posted this review I was contacted by Sam's manager about my experience. The manager was empathetic and expressed that I should never have been asked for a doctor's note in my situation. He also worked with me and told me that I would be allowed to use my training sessions whenever I wanted due to my health condition. I really appreciate this gesture and understanding by the management. Based upon this interaction, I would like to believe that not all people at Lighthouse fitness...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went to the Norman 10gym but Iām writing this here because of their customer service specialist, Rachel ! Iāve paid around $70 already for this gym and have been there only once. After I went 1 singular time, HALF of the building is under construction the next time I go in. Nobody at the front desk told me that in a few days, the part of the building I bought the membership for will be unusable for a while! The floor is insanely packed now, I got a membership elsewhere. I tried calling this place for a week of voicemails, emails and even speaking with Rachel, but nobody got back to me about canceling. Itās extremely difficult to cancel a membership here, so I wouldnāt even do it! I signed up in person very quickly, no communication with the front desk girl about the construction in the next few days; just told me to sign. Rachel here, their customer service specialist, will straight up interrupt you multiple times over the phone when youāre trying to talk, and not answer your emails. I had to pause multiple times to ask her if I could finish what I was saying! So weird. Today I had to pay $50 to buy my contract out and Rachel said they will continue to charge Februaryās fee on my account in a few days even though it has been canceled as of today and I have not been back since that ONE time. $80 for 1 time if you want to cancel you guys, think it through š buy a private gym membership for cheaper than this. The whole customer service interactions have been so bad with this company, they truly do not care about you at all, believe that. They are GRASPING...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI joined this gym after belonging to Planet Fitness for a couple of years. I thought I might enjoy going to the classes offered at 10Gym. Everyone was friendly and the place was always clean but I had two problems: First, their tanning beds... the tanning beds have little bitty, teeny-tiny changing areas. I couldn't get dressed without bumping the walls with my elbows and knees. Also, they didn't change their bulbs often enough. The last couple of time I went it did absolutely no good because the bulbs were old and weak. My second complaint, and the main reason for writing this review, is that when my year was up and I decided to cancel I went to the club and was told I need to email my cancellation notice to some address, along with the reason why I want to cancel. This frustrated me greatly because I signed up at the club, why couldn't I cancel at the club?? Then when I sent the email I didn't hear back for several days. When I did hear back the email didn't say my membership was cancelled, it said my cancellation was pending. I called to ask why it was pending they said it will be cancelled AFTER my next payment. My year was up, why does it need to wait??? Furthermore, if they had answered the email immediately, it would have been before my October payment went through and that could have been my last payment instead of November being my last payment. Extremely frustrating since my year was up and I was not under contract. It felt very much like they were trying to make sure they got every...
