Almost hidden away in the back of the shopping center, right next to the old drive-up pharmacy is where I discovered Contender eSports. From the outside, I was sure it would be a tiny little mom & pop business with a menagerie of mix-matched old PCs on a LAN with CAT 5 cables strung over and under leading to a router with a hand crank similar to a Model T.
Not only is it MUCH bigger than it appears to be from the outside, nothing could have been further from the truth. Bright, clean, modern, organized, and except for a few old dudes in my group everything was near brand new and in excellent working condition. They support and partner with a veteran’s group 2 nights a month (which is how I found them), and their events calendar almost always appears to have something going on as well.
Management quickly surmised my information gap and provided a nice quick tour and helped me get settled in, signed up, and up and going quicker than I could have imagined. Talk about a NO BRAINER if you are anything like me who hasn’t used the term “gamer” in a very long time. They took all the guesswork and technical issues out and it was just all fun and games… literally!
It was not only refreshing to see such a diverse group of people all in one place, but to see them all engaged with each other talking, laughing, and dare I say having a blast in a safe environment. My group had reserved one of the private rooms, but regardless of where you sit, the experience is the same…flawless fun!
Look forward to the next event, but already plan on going back and sharpening up my rusty skills as well as taking the manager’s offer up on learning more about the technical specs as I may be in the market for a new PC...
Read more10/10 recommend, you have to check this place out if you haven't already! Had my son's 8th birthday party here and it was a great experience from start to finish! Was able to come in an hour early to set up decor and Isaac was super friendly and helpful. Even with a party of 10 rowdy and excited boys, he was so patient and willing to help with any and every question the boys constantly had. Last year we did 918 Game Trucks for my son's birthday which was still a cool experience but paid $100 more than a Contender party and definitely did not have the same value as this center. With the game truck, you had to provide a building for the party with wifi or a hotspot to connect to the truck, it advertised as air conditioned but were just a bunch of fans in the truck so it was still hot, it did not provide pizza and drinks like a Contender party provides, and the guy working the truck acted like he did not want to be there at all and even expected a tip after paying $400 to have the party on the weekend. With Contender, we got 3 hours of game time with multiple games to choose from, 2 included pizzas and pop from Mazzio's, air conditioning, an immaculate facility, a super friendly and helpful team member willing to help throughout the 3 hours and 10 happy boys who had a blast and did not want to leave! Korey, the manager of this location, has been super kind and helpful, too. The rates from the parties to the memberships are all very reasonable and we will definitely be getting a membership here...
Read moreAbsolutely a mother's dream come true of an establishment! The staff is so kind, they know their stuff and always help me the best they can when it comes to "gamer/gaming" talk and questions. Our first visit was late Friday evening, he and I needed a night out and this was one of my top 10 or more google searches when I searched "where to play vr and video games in Tulsa with my kid" and the only Kid friendly, youth geared and driven was here. And even with the late hour of date nite with my nearly 10 yo son, we were greeted promptly by 2 young boys when we entered and the coolest employee, I don't remember his name, gave me the run down. Less than 20 mins later (could been quicker if I wasn't so curious) I was sitting in my car listening to my audiobook, eating taco bell and watching my little guy make new friends and hone his passion for gaming. PS. The content creator camp beginning on Monday, I must call you guys and see if there are openings, I should do it now, but I must finish this review, (ADHD) it's already taken 4 hours and me losing my phone 27 times.... We love this place and hope to see...
