There's only a handful of GunPla and other model builder supply shops in the Bay Area. My friend went here and sent me pictures of their shop, but due to COVID-19 I wasn't able to make a trip down there to actually go there, but I did however bought supplies from them and they personally sent me an email. Bella Wang, if you're reading this, you guys are doing a fantastic job of maintaining the webshop and getting our orders in a timely manner. I know it's difficult during this time, it's difficult for all of us but we hope to do our part to reduce the curve and what not.
Aside from that, they carry a huge assortment of paints, from Alclad, Gaia, Tamiya, and and so forth. Let me tell you right now, do you know how difficult it is to fine good hobby paints online for a decent price without the sellers milking your wallet dry? Exactly. There used to be a shop that I would always ALWAYS go to for my supplies : Hobby Co. San Francisco. That place had everything I needed but unfortunately they have since closed and it's difficult to acquire any sort of paint from any hobby shop that are still opened.
What I like about NewType is that they're local, they're in the Bay Area, aside from GundamPlanet, but they're all the way in the East Coast. NewType shipped very first order in a timely manner and reached out to me telling me that due to COVID-19 they're going to be delayed a bit but I don't mind honestly.
Thank you guys again for your hard work and the amazing assortment of paints.
I wish I can physically go there in person to look at the entire place but you know, you know. I do however wish you guys expand your Vallejo paints more, maybe to the Metal lines or the Model Color line.
Once again, thank you for everything guys. Always glad to support a 'mom and pop'...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe had an hour or so of time to burn so I happen to see a new Gundam place opened up so we drove up to check it out. I am absolutely amazed by what the owners have done. Obviously a lot of thoughts has been put into setting up the store and they have done it so well.
Firstly, the place is new and clean. Upon entering there is a 1/10 Char's Zaku on display. Then there are a few tables where customers can use to build Gundams. A great place to hang out. They even have a paint room with proper ventilation and masks, all free for customers to use. That's an awesome idea, not only selling Gundam, but also help promote the building. There are some really experienced builders there who are making some nice looking build.
Then there is a place to hang out with a couch+TV showing, of course, Gundam episodes. Surround which are a glass showcase of some really nice builds. I was salivating just looking at the details and craftsmanship there.
The actual kits that are for sale is in another room. I wonder why they don't open up the place. Anyway, they have a great collection, aside from Bandai kits, which they mostly have PG/MG/RG and a little bit of recent HGs, they also have quite a few sets of Dragon Momoko kits, which are totally rare esp in the US. I was really tempted by the 1/35 Unicorn bust, it was hard to keep my wallet closed.
They have been opened for just a few months. The service is very friendly, it is clear that the owners are huge Gundam fans and love to make more friends.
I am sure I will be back.. Hopefully that Unicorn will still be there when I clear out my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's not the Best but the BEST it can be. when I came in the store it looked small but then not what it seems at the back, the place is nice and clean also has 2 other things that caught my interest they have a couple of tables set up for people to assemble their gunpla kits I believe you bring your own tools though and they even have 2 airbrush stations set up in another room with ventilation, was told its free to use if provided you have your own paint as well(they sell paint there too Tamiya brand and some other.) they have Gundam Build Fighters playing on their TV, it's a nice passive sound to play in such an environment. And lastly the people their are knowledgeable with custom painting kit. I found one product they had that caught my eye, some clear paint that lights up nicely when shun with UV lights.
the only downside I see is that with such a nice set up that allow people to assemble and paint there, they lack tools such as (Mr Hobby assembling kit)nippers, exacto knives, twizers, shaving files and sand paper/strips with...
