Ever since I became disabled while caring for my dying mother, I've had to go on public assistance for the first time in my life. The Fayette County Assistance Office made the process a lot less daunting. My only complaints are that sometimes they have failed to give me information that a person who has worked their entire lives has no knowledge about, programs I never knew existed that would've helped me greatly if I had been told about them. They need to understand that their world is completely foreign to some of us. Also, sometimes it's impossible to get through by phone - the recording tells you that your call is important, call back later, and hangs up on you! I know of no other agency of any type that does that. Lastly, I never know who my caseworker is - they change it without telling me. Since I'm permanently disabled, I have a long-term case, but my file gets passed around like a time share. However, all-in-all, they haven't done a poor job. I treat them with respect, they return the same. They are public servants, not my servants. Then again, I've been a government employee before, too, so I understand how it feels to be in their position. Over all, considering the high amounts of poverty, drug abuse, and unemployment, and low levels of educational attainment and job opportunities in the region, and the fact that the residents of this state keep seating a majority GOP legislature, thereby tying the hands of social-service agencies such as DPW with severe budget and staffing constraints, I believe the Fayette CAO does a...
Read moreI have had medical coverage through FCAC for years and also for my children and have not had any problems until recently. My daughter, who just had a baby a month ago, has a stack of bills, the most recent $39,000+ AND and unpaid pediatrician bill so that that pediatrician is refusing to see the new baby until the bill is paid. I have left several messages on my caseworker's direct number, have turned in renewal on time with changes added, have uploaded all of the unpaid medical bills, have spoke to my case worker twice directly via phone and still the new baby is not added on insurance and unpaid medical bills have not been covered. there has been no lapse in coverage for me or my children and they have had medicaid health insurance since birth. Why, after telling caseworker the pediatrician refuses to see baby until bill paid, she remarks "well, I have 30 days legally to look at and submit the renewal you just did" instead of what she should have said which should be I will get right on it. It is so sad how the people who actually need this help from the state have to fight to get it and the people who abuse it get everything without question is something that...
Read moreSomeone who makes more than me with no children and lives on their own get $400 a month. But a man who takes care of his wife, 4 children and a grandmother gets $53 a month. Make it make sense. I was getting $400 in the beginning of the month and our second payment for over a year now, but after renewal when nothing has changed they now say I make too much and took our second payment away and dropped us to $53 a month. My wife is a stay at home mother I am the only one working. Inflation has killed us and not one employee seems to care about the well-being of others. Shame on all of you. This is taxpayer money and I pay my taxes. Treat us fairly or stop taking our money this is the land of the free but I don't feel free. The people need to stick together and wipe...
