UNC Health Blue Ridge - Valdese Emergency Room — Local services in Valdese

We had the absolute best experience at the ER today. My boyfriend had severe chest pains a month ago and we live in Hickory, so we went to Frye. We waited 12 hours before getting a room and left with more questions than we came with. He has been sick since and never got any better, so when his chest pains came back we went to Valdese instead. I wish I would’ve gotten their names, because his care team was amazing! We were called back in minutes (it wasn’t too busy, we went at 10am.) He had to have two IV’s and his nurse is the most proficient nurse I’ve ever met. She had both IVs in in under a minute and he didn’t feel a thing. She was great! The Doctor/PA actually seemed to be as concerned as we were, unlike our experiences elsewhere. He ran multiple tests, explained everything, and made multiple phones calls to update our primary care team and gather info from Frye. He didn’t have to do all of this, he even called to schedule us a consult with a top notch cardiologist. I live only a few miles at the time from this hospital. In December 2010 I went into premature labor and my husband drove me to the nearest hospital. The doctor on there literally ask me why I came there! I told him because it was a emergency. After I was put in a room he came in and checked me and literally told me " your baby is dead" just like that! They had already called for another ambulance to come get me and take me to hospital in Morganton. While laying there crying the nurse started listen to my belly. Thump thump, thump thump and I watched her run out of room to get the doctor. He returned and listened. He told me " well your baby is still alive but it don't look good. The reason why I'm saying this is the top of your babies head is already black which means it's dead or almost dead." Then he turns and leaves. On December 24 2024 my healthy and completely normal son will be 14! It turns out it wasn't my son's head he was looking at but his butt! I wished I could leave no stars on this hospital…. I went in on Labor Day due to my cyst on ovaries…. I have never been in so much pain in my entire life and I cried and cried but on Labor Day the doctor I seen was very nice and he gave me everything I needed to feel better… today I was there for 6 hours with a iv in my arm crying my eyes out and the nurse and doctor was very rude and snippy with me . The doctor told me I shouldn’t be in a lot of pain.. I wouldn’t be there if I wasn’t in pain this place is a rip anything to get money from you and not help you!
