Dowling Distilling — Local services in Van Alstyne

We took a chance one late night and wandered into Dowling Distilling—not knowing anything about it—and discovered it had just transformed into a speakeasy… in Van Alstyne of all places! I know, right? Who would’ve thought? Our small town nightlife just leveled up.

We had family visiting from out of state and just wanted to grab a quick drink, but it turned into a whole experience. We had a blast sampling creative concoctions and learning the stories behind each thoughtfully crafted drink. The service? Absolutely top-notch.

We ended up staying so long, we figured we might as well order some food—and wow, were we impressed. The flatbread, spinach dip, and bourbon bread pudding were all incredible. I still can't get over their adorable serving dishes which totally matched the 1920s theme.

Given the amount of time we were there we had to have tried at least half of the cocktail menu and I have to say they have the best drinks I've had since I can remember!

From the doorman (who doubles as the evening’s entertainment) to the owner, who was incredibly welcoming, friendly, full of knowledge, and clearly passionate about what he does. He was kind, engaging, and more than happy to share the stories behind each drink. Even our bartender was the perfect host and well versed in his craft.

We walked in as strangers and left feeling like regulars. We’ll definitely be back...

5 stars isn’t enough—this place deserves 10 STARS! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had the most marvelous time at Dowling Distilling with friends on Friday. Steven, the owner, was so kind and genuine—not many owners will come out and just chat, which we loved. He went above and beyond making sure the guys were taken care of, letting them taste everything and thoroughly explaining each drink.

Wes crafted fantastic cocktails for us girls and was so attentive, making sure we were always looked after. I also loved meeting Brenda when she stopped by to introduce herself. It means so much that this is a true family-owned business where everyone works together.

The drinks were incredible, the service was unmatched, and the hospitality made us feel right at home. My husband loved everything about this place. We can’t wait...

You have to check this place out if you like liquor and support small local businesses! The owners are so passionate about their business! They will share with you the story that built their business and you can taste their products in the tasting room. They don’t have full service drinks, but you can sample their products and enjoy their beautiful tasting room. If you aren’t a straight liquor drinker (like me) they provide a mixer so you can enjoy their moonshines. This distillery even supports the local farmers in the area for their grains.
