This was our first AND last visit. Food was OK BUT $15 each for two Brisket Sandwiches, $4.00 for a Broccoli Salad, $2.00 for Bottled Water and $2.50 for a can soda. $40+ for a lunch is a bit above my budget. I would have expected this in Dallas or Fort Worth but not in Van Alstyne. There are still some excellent places in Van Alstyne where you can get a full meal for what lunch cost. Sorry but I will have to pass.

RESPONSE TO OWNERS COMMENTS: I'm not sure how you interpreted my comments and came up with "So you are saying Van Alstyne has low standards and cheap people". Those are your words, not mine.

I enjoy great food and am willing to pay for it. There are many restaurants in Van Alstyne that serve great food and we support them.

I should have known something was wrong when we arrived on Thursday Dec 8 at 11:50 AM (45 minutes after they opened) and the restaurant was empty except for three employees. I don't recall ever going into any other local restaurant at lunch time and finding them empty. And only one or two customers came in while we were eating.

The other local restaurants have to deal with food suppliers too and they manage to maintain reasonable prices.

UPDATE: Thought about McDonald's for lunch today (NOT, see owners comments) but they were busy so we went to Longhorn's instead. We both enjoyed a steak filet, baked potato, salad AND shared a dessert for $55. For only $15 more we got a FULL MEAL & dessert with full service vs $40+ for 2 sandwiches and one salad at a buffet line. Was it worth it, you bet. And I don't mind paying for that kind of SERVICE and delicious FOOD. Will I go back, yes I sure will for 5 STAR Food and Service.

I just noticed the OWNERS RESPONSE of my original post has been removed. I certainly...

This barbecue is fire! I tried the burnt end pizza at the Star Fair of Texas. It was bomb.

I went to the new location and tried the excellent burger they have. It was tender. It was not too big. The flavor was on point. The bread is made on site. It was chewy and complimented the burger. The burger was so good I had to come back two days later and try the bbq.

I tried the ribs, burnt ends, jalapeño and cheddar sausage, regular sausage, queso Mac, Texas twinkies, and beans.

Ribs- tender and well seasoned Burnt ends- Smokey, sweet and savory outer crust. Sort of too fatty on some pieces but that was not and issue.

The jalapeño and cheese sausage- was bursting with flavor and bits of good ness. The reg sausage was good as well.

Max and cheese- very creamy, a hint of spice, nice crust on top. Very unique and not traditional.

Beans- nice ranch style flavorful offering.

Texas twinkies- very flavorful, and Smokey. The cream cheese on the inside was not overpowering it was just enough. The jalapeño was not too hot where it could not be enjoyed.

I even tried the desserts. I forgot the names. There is a tart with custard and graham cracker crust that is exploding with flavors. A must try. The other dessert I tried I believe was a banana love cake… this is the only thing I was not a fan of. Everything past the top chocolate mousse layer did not merge together well. The bananas at the bottom were chewy and not really showing any love.

Overall, I enjoyed the experience and look forward to...

If you understand and love true central TX BBQ you need to get to this place before Texas Monthly Ranks them. No 3+hr waits for bbq!!! I travel all over the state tasting some of the finest Q there is, and I'll put this right up there with any of the best. I got there late and they were almost out of Brisket, I'm a point (fatty) guy but the flat(lean) was excellent, and the Bark was amazing. Sausage was also great. I know the Q is the star of the show but the sides here are also amazing, quaso mac and cheese, but the elotes with brisket holy cow! Of the 3 desserts the ice box and banana cream pie were sold out so I'll have to come back, but the pecan pie was excellent. I read some of the reviews before venturing out here, and it seems some people are not use to true BBQ, This is an indulgence, like going out for a nice steak dinner. BBQ is not cheap, but the pricing here was inline with anything I normally see, and actually on the cheaper side. The fact they have individual sides is a steal. And it looks like they have added brisket tacos, and sandwiches for a less expensive option. Talking to the owners a wonderful husband and wife the bread for the sandwiches is actually made in house, that is crazy! Go make the drive out here, you will not be...

I feel like at this point I need to write a more in depth review. Originally drawn by the fact that it was a great BBQ restaurant, Texapolitan drew me in for the allure of great wood fire pizza with some Barbeque “Easter Eggs”. Let me say this, Stefan the chef/owner is a mad scientist and I am here for it. His Brisket Elote was phenomenal. His crab queso pizza was off the charts good. Then in consecutive weeks he has topped himself with these last two mad hacks. He made a Pork Belly based Adult BLT with his “Texy Sauce” and replaced the bread from a BLt with a wood fired pizza pita shell. Best “sandwich” had in ages. Then, this week his P.O.W. “Pie of the Week” was the Fungus Amongus. If you appreciate mushrooms, come get this thing. He used no less than 4 types of mushroom with different flavor profiles and textures to produce the best tasting mushroom pizza I have ever had. Ok, now that I am gushing over the flavor… here is the other kicker. They are located right across the street from famous Bill Smith’s Cafe. So when you originally search Van Alstyne to pick your lunch spot, and see the 2 hour wait on the weekend, here is your alternative!
