I was genuinely disappointed with The Gravity Vault Voorhees. For starters, The price for a day pass is astronomically high. Fortunately, they did accommodate me with a discount. The , service, discount & friendly nature of climbers are probably the only pros of my experience here. The routes are egregiously under & overrated. I've been climbing casually for 3-4(ish) months now & I'm able to climb V4-V5 boulders OUTDOORS. They do NOT use + & -'s, which results in inaccurate route grading. The general consensus within the climbing community is that one can typically climb harder routes indoors than they can climb outdoors. That's not the case here at all, which leads me to believe the route-setters do not know what they are doing. I was only able to climb one V3 in this gym and barely got it. A lot of the V1/V2 routes felt like V0+ & not challenging at all. Most V3 & up felt like they were severely underrated for whatever reason. I Attempted a one of the few V4 routes and just couldn't. It was extremely discouraging there was no happy medium. There was not one singular route, that I could get half way up and challenge myself on. Not to mention they over tape the starts and some routes don't have start tape or aren't even marked as well as the top out holds. The gym overall felt more geared towards Comp climbing which heavily relies on technique. I was surprised to even see a two kids there. It was clear from the moment I set foot into the gym, it was not meant for kids. Most holds were so chalked up, using chalk wouldn't help you. I just kept slipping off. Overall, If I were you, I wouldn't spend your money here. The price is just way too much for what you actually get. There's a very heavily one-sided selection of belay to boulder. In my honest opinion, They need to lower prices, have someone else set their routes, and clean the place...
Read moreOver all we had a great experience. First time for two of us. When we walked in, there was a young lady at the computer that was less than thrilled to be working. Huff and puff. It's a good thing her F key was working she said otherwise she would not have been able to find our names. She was aggressively rude to our friend that asked for the auto belay. We paid and stood there for a minute with her staring at us. They we had to say we need harnesses...... Huff and puff, she grabs them and tosses them on the counter. We walked away, all three of us ready to leave. We couldn't believe how unprofessional she was. Then this guy comes up. He's quiet spoken, very relaxed and instantly put us at ease. He goes on to explain the rules and protocol for our day. What to expect. And some quick tips. I did not catch their names. I did take pics of them which I will not post to protect their person's. Management can ask for them for training purposes. Then for the next few hours we had a blast. It was great fun watching others climb too. If you go here beware of the one working. The only one not smiling. Also, I thought when you are the one holding the ropes to belay you are supposed to stand. This one sat down to belay for a kid of no more than 10... Not safe...
Read moreThe only thing good about this place is the selection of top rope routes. The bouldering is meh, only one wall. Pretty small. The routes are ok, but I was mostly disappointed at the lack of easy routes for kids to try.
I went with my nieces and one of them noticed a piece of trash by one of the benches (a plastic toothpick) and I went there 2 more days in a row to bring my other relatives and I saw the same trash there day after day. It seems like they never clean and the bathrooms were even worse. They had a youth competition the week before and it looks like they hadn't cleaned since or vacuumed their floor. Also the mats by top roping don't have springs under them, causing them to be severely deformed and not pleasant to walk on.
Compared to "The Cliffs at Callowhill" in Philly which is immaculate, this place was gross as hell. Also the weird couches they provide for guests to sit on have chalk, rubber and sweat stains all over them. 1/5 for cleanliness, 4/5 for top rope selection, 3/5 for bouldering.
Lastly, they had covid signage up to appear to be safe or care about this, but the lack of masks from half of their staff during a spike in cases says...
