My experience so far with this business overall has been a good experience, they are attentive and offer amazing tasteful cakes. My only feedback as to why the service is rated as 1 star is because I've previously placed an online order back in February and requested a phone call to discuss special requests and that I did not mind paying extra if needed, a guy calls me the next day and he confirmed how I wanted the cake and he advised me that it would be an extra $20 or so for a total of $60+ for my order which I was fine with paying. I was satisfied how my order came out and the experience I had with them the first time so I decided to place another order this week, they are closed on Mondays and the order had to be placed in time to receive it by Friday (today), so again I went online and placed the order and added in the notes how I wanted the cake and to call me with any questions and that I did not mind paying extra (again). No one calls me this time around so I call them yesterday to just confirm that they did receive my requests and if I needed to pay anything extra I would. The girl who answers puts me on a 10 minute hold and then the "manager" picks up and asks again "how can I help you" I advised her that another person was already looking into what I was calling about and that I've been on hold for a while and she apologized stating that they have a long line of customers but that she could help me now. So I re-explained myself to her and she goes back to check on my order with the bakers, she comes back on the line and explains to me that they did receive my requests and her exact words were " they said its fine this time but next time you need to call in over the phone for any special requests" I replied and said to her that I was not aware of that especially since my previous online order was handled perfectly fine I even mentioned to her my previous order with them and how the guy called me and I paid extra over the phone. No where in our conversation did she ever mention to me that I would have to pay anything extra for my request this time. I send my friend to pick the cake up today and they tell her I owe $8.00. I actually have to laugh because the manager I spoke to yesterday is the one giving my friend the cake order. My friend calls me and I get on the phone with the manager and I reminded her of the conversation we had yesterday letting her know there was no mention of having to pay extra. Her excuse was that they were still working on my order yesterday and were not sure how much extra they would need to charge me so that's why she didn't say anything? Umm, so you didn't think you should've AT LEAST told me that I would indeed have to pay something extra but that you weren't sure how much yet.. I would have been fine with that response and would've sent my friend with an extra $30 to cover any extra fees. But now I have my friend at the counter wondering why she has to pay an extra $8.00. And with me its never about the dollar amount honestly because I've previously paid an extra $20 and it didn't bother me. Its the fact that you messed up as the "manager" and decided to still charge me the $8.00. Its the principal not what happened that bothers me here because I am always considerate of small owned businesses and I do understand that you need to pay extra for extra services so I do understand them on their end but I guess the manager just did not care or was not mindful of me as the customer and my experience with her and her small miscommunication. Anyways... I may or may not order from them again but it did frustrate me that there was not any clear communication with my...
Read moreI have always been a loyal customer of Sweet Eats bakery for their specialty cakes. Their store is always well-stocked and the cakes are absolutely delicious.
About a month ago, I placed an order for two birthday cakes for my daughter's first birthday. I visited the store in person to customize the cakes, and the ordering process was incredibly easy. I had reference pictures to ensure the cakes turned out exactly as I envisioned.
For the first cake, I wanted it to resemble the reference picture, except for the shade of green for the fondant dots. And for the second cake, I requested to exclude the candy topping shown in the reference picture. I was informed that the cake had to include the candy topping, which was not a major issue for me.
On the day of the party, my sister picked up the cakes around 11 am. Unfortunately, it was pouring rain that day and the entire town was flooded. To my disappointment, the cakes didn't look as expected and would have required complete refrosting to be presentable. However, due to time constraints, we had to make do with what we had for the party.
Despite my specific instructions, both cakes appeared unfinished with a messy border at the bottom that was not part of our agreement. The candy topping on one of the cakes was excessively thick, bumpy, and uneven, which affected the overall presentation. Furthermore, the all-white cake was YELLOW and had a poor appearance, giving the impression that it was hastily made. It is evident that the cake decorator lacked attention to detail and appeared to have limited experience in cake decorating.
I personally reached out to Sweet Eats to express my disappointment with both cakes. I spoke with Bridget, who seemed friendly but didn't show much concern about my dissatisfaction. She had a side conversation with another employee, who said “Oh well, that’s why we have a sign that says to check your order before leaving the store.”
Throughout our conversation, I remained polite and simply wanted to express my dissatisfaction without requesting a refund or compensation. Bridget requested that I email the reference pictures and images of the cakes I received, which I promptly did on the same day. However, I have not received any follow-up from Sweet Eats since then.
Considering Sweet Eats' reputation and premium pricing for custom cakes, I expected them to show some level of concern or empathy towards my experience. Unfortunately, their response fell short of my expectations. As a result, I have decided not to return to Sweet Eats bakery, and I would advise others in need of custom cakes to explore...
Read moreVery very very poor customer service. They do not care about their customers at all. I would never spend a dime of my money there again. Over the 8yrs years I was ordering from them there was always an issue. They wouldn't let me order certain size cakes over the phone even though I was over 30 minutes away from their location. It seems like they always made me jump through hoops to order a cake. I really loved their cakes so I put up with it. Finally, I was having my gender reveal cake made there and spoke to the owner doug several times about it and making arrangements for scheduling it so it all worked out. We ironed out the cost and everything else. I wasn't able to do a "specialty" cake in marlton so my husband had to drop the envelope off and pick up the cake in voorhees which was completely out of his way but we liked the cakes so he did it anyway. My husband dropped off our sealed envelope and I had written everything on the outside just to remind them of what I wanted. Doug confirmed with him the pricing that day- I was getting the smallest cake and I just wanted my babys color inside. Doug made it seem like it was this huge hassle and that there was no way they could get it done in the two days (even though I had already talked with him about it) An hour or more after he dropped the envelope I get a phone call that they can't make the cake in the smallest size because they can't make that small amount of icing for the inside. Seemed like a bogus excuse and I asked to speak to Doug. He confirmed they can't make that small amount and they would have to throw it out the extra so I need to go a size up. The new cake would cost me an additional $15. It wasn't the money it was the fact that we had already talked about it a few times and that never came up in conversation. You would assume the owner would know what the heck is going on at his shop. Anyway we picked up the cake and the next day I wrote them a letter expressing my disgust. Never heard back. I followed up with another letter and received no response on that one either. They lost a very good customer. It has been almost 3 years and many many cakes later and I would still never go back. I'm about to order a cake from Randolphs for my mom's birthday and it just reminded me about how much I...
