Store filled with racist managers & Cashiers. This event took place 9/14/2023. My daughter went to the express line at the Big Y in Walpole MA. She was told by Laurie whom works at the stores, that she couldn’t use the removable scanner gun to scan her items. This was supposedly a new rule. The new rule was that she had to pick up each item and scan them individually & not use the scanner gun. Meanwhile there are removable scanners that are there for everyone to use. I had to go back inside because my daughter brought me the wrong items. When I went inside the first thing I noticed. Is customers checking as she stand by the register. I observed as the other customers that were Caucasian checked out without following any of this new rule. They weren’t stopped nor told of this supposed new rule. I asked someone named Alex whom worked at the front about this new rule. Alex said he wasn’t aware of this new rule. Laurie whom knew she was being racist. Started walking towards me and Alex to somehow remind Alex of this rule that he was clueless too. I asked Laurie about it as she stood there while other customers weren’t stopped or questioned. I ask if she was discriminating and applying the rules to just my daughter whom is black. When I pointed out one of the customers carts. She said it’s because my daughter had smaller items. My daughter literally had big boxes like a customer that was in front of us with cereal. I pointed to other customers checking out even smaller items without delay or interruption. She continued by telling me not to talk to her & she will not do the return Etc. She refused to do my return. Therefore Alex did it. I was furious because why make a 14 year old uncomfortable when it’s all based on color and nothing conclusive. They are always questioning her when she goes there. To not further escalate the situation I completed my transactions and left. I called Big Y when I got home to ask about the corporate number to report the incident and a last name for Laurie. I was told by Alex that he couldn’t give me that and that Laurie was a transfer from another store. I forgot to grab stuff anyways so I said to Alex. I have to swing back at the store anyways. Since I have to go back anyways to grab a couple of things. I even apologized to Alex and said that my anger was not towards him. The minute I showed up to Big Y cops are at the store waiting for me. They wouldn’t allow my daughter in the store & to prevent me from shopping. I am pregnant. Therefore my daughter always helps carry things for me. I didn’t think it was that serious and only got out the car to make sure she was okay when she is checking out. We weren’t allowed in the store and had to be questioned. Like I explained to the police this is discrimination. The same managers that watched as I left the store angry we’re the same ones supporting Laurie’s behavior. They stood outside as I spoke to the cops. If I were white or Caucasian. The managers would have tried to de-escalate the situation as it was happening before I left. They would have approached me and ask me what happened. They did not but they were super quick to see if the cops would mishandle another black person. I am a frequent shopper as I don’t live far. Not all of us black people are criminals. Racism is welcomed at the Big Y in Walpole, I understand. Hate for another human being only makes you ugly...
Read moreFood great. Staff over zealous with the Possibility of contamination from loyal customers. I brought my own bags in to bag my own groceries. The big Y Sold me shopping bags back before the Covid-19 Virus scare. I was told by a young clerk that this would be the last time I could bag my own groceries. I could not bring the bags in anymore. The bags I had maybe dirty or unclean, according to the clerk. I ask if caught a second time would there be a fine or something the clerk smiled, So here is my question if the cashier touched the customers groceries in front of me then touched my stuff which I then in-turn touched to put them in the my own bag were they already cross contamination by the Big y Staff. The clerk said there was a sign on the front door about no bags.... I checked there were no signs.. The clerk also said that Governor Baker said in his speech No Bags in stores..... No true..... So the lie gets extended.
I was also told not to touch the glass in the fish produce aisle. I could not see the prices or quality of fish in the display case, then I pointed to the one I wanted the clerk did not say anything so I got closer and pointed and inadvertently touched the glass. WWII broke out. Sir, sir, Don't touch the glass.... My God what has become of customer service if they are that scared stay closed.
I work in a hospital all day 8 hrs/day x 40 hrs per week I have been in contact with more sick people then the Grocery ladies, all day long and then I got tested June 1st Negative for antibodies. Now I can't even shop with dignitary. I felt treated like a kid. As a veteran and hitting 65 I earn more respect than that. Roach brothers and S&S here I come. Re-open...
Read moreBig Y itself is a very nice clean store. They have some foods / products other stores don't and they don't have some popular foods (Chocolate Chex one example) products ( excedrin migraine with only tylenol and caffeine no aspirin brand) other stores do and that is sort of a hassle. often keeps me from stopping there on quick shop. Big Y has a simple problem they just wont fix and that is the front end. Besides no self checkouts, they never have more than one or two registers open , no matter how many people are lining up. The prices are also on the high side. some organic applesauce packet I saw at Big Y for 4.99 Stop and shop had the same ones for 2.49 regular price everyday. I checked several times just to make sure it wasn't a mistake,I found several products MUCH cheaper at...
