We had the Carolina steak tips and the chicken Caesar pizza, as a carry out order. The steak was cooked well and the Carolina Gold sauce was great. Mashed potatoes and coleslaw were great. The pizza was cooked well and tasted ok, the chicken was shredded too much as to be stringy.
My experience with the service took this down to two stars overall. The child working the front counter could barely contain her negativity. Upon walking in, she was curt and when I asked about a takeout menu, she simply pointed at the wall. While I was waiting, I heard her have multiple private conversations with other workers in public areas of the restaurant. She was only helped or provided support from the two other workers sitting at the front when she was obviously overwhelmed or on the phone. I observed that other takeout orders were put in a large paper bag; mine (small pizza box and entree container) was simply handed to me. The paid-for drink was not provided to me, but I could not have juggled the food and drink at the same time anyway. I came back for the 20oz soda and, after the staff acted put out that I had asked for what had been paid for, I was given two kids plastic cups.
When we opened the takeout container for the entree, everything was shoved in the box, and not everything was packed separately. This means the delicious Carolina sauce got all over everything, including the outside of the side dish containers.
All in all, I will not be visiting this...
Read moreI've had better experiences here, might have been an off night.
Overall the vibe is good and atmosphere is better than you might expect given the location. The separate bar area looks good. Spacious booths.
The food was disappointing. Portion sizes were inconsistent. Fries come in the little wire baskets that hide the fact you are getting a relatively small amount of fries.
I got the fish and chips and the tarter sauce was served in takeout containers with lemon wedges that were dessicated like they were cut 10 hours earlier, dry to the point of having no juice in them. The server got some fresh but it shouldn't have gone out like that. The fish was pretty bland, thin and did not taste very fresh despite being an hour from the ocean. For 21 dollars I expected more.
All that said, the most disappointing thing was the brisket my wife ordered. 27 bucks for a pile of dry, ultra over cooked, days old and probably microwaved beef slices. I am not sure where it was smoked but it seems very unlikely it was in the restaurant, not a hint of smoke in the air. It was also cut thin as if it were going on a steak and cheese sub, that is not how a brisket is sliced. It had a smokey flavor but it genuinely looked like deli roast beef sandwich meat.
Hopefully some of this gets corrected, this place used to be a...
Read moreMy wife and I have driven by this place so many times and each time we say we have to check it out, so last night, Tuesday ,we did and it was packed. We ate in the bar which is closed off from the dining area by large windows. Service was prompt, helpful and friendly. My wife ordered the Turkey burger from the 600 calorie selection on the back page of the menu. Burger was juicy and tasty and came with sweet potato wedges, shredded lettuce and pickles. She especially liked that the sweet potato wedges, which were delicious, came baked not fried. A big plus.
I had the pastrami on a pretzel roll with honey mustard which was equally good,. Pastrami was thick cut and the roll was grill pressed , toasty and tasty. I opted for the sweet potato fries which were crispy around the edges but very soft in the middle.
Good selection of about eight beers on draft. I tried a Shocktop draft that was cold and delicious. While there we observed other orders coming by such as steaks and chicken pies and burgers that all looked fantastic.
Overall very glad we stopped and will most likely return in the...
