DISHONEST AND SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES!!! This rescue organization assured my family and I that the adult/senior cat that we recently adopted from them was litter box trained ; however, soon after bringing the animal home, it became clear to us that he was NOT. Over the course of the next week or so, the cat primarily urinated and defecated on the floor, despite the multiple, clean litter boxes we had readily available for him to use. We did reach out to the rescue organization for advice/suggestions regarding what we could do to try to remedy the problem ; they suggested that we try moving the litter boxes to different locations to see if the cat would be more willing to use them then. We immediately implemented their suggestion re: moving the litter boxes; however, the cat still continued to both urinate and defecate on the floor instead of in the litter boxes. We even purchased a different type of litter to try, hoping that it might remedy the issue. Unfortunately, it did not. Upset and frustrated, we felt as though we had little choice but to return the cat to the rescue group. Soon after returning the cat to the rescue group, we inquired about adopting a different cat in his place, since had already been approved to adopt, paid the adoption fee, purchased all of the necessary cat supplies, and were still very much interested in welcoming a new furry family member into our home. It was not until that time that the rescue group informed us of the alleged "policy" that they have not allowing an adopter who returns a cat to them (regardless of the reason) to adopt another cat instead. Furthermore, the adoption fee that we had already paid for the (misrepresented) cat was non-refundable. So, basically, they refused to allow us to adopt a different cat while still keeping our adoption fee. When we inquired as to where I could find this "policy", in writing, since it was not listed on the adoption agreement that I had signed with them prior to taking possession of the cat, nor was I able to locate it anywhere on their website, they simply ignored my email message. What is most disturbing/unsettling to us about this entire situation is not our not being allowed to adopt another cat in place of the misrepresented, non-litter box-trained one we had no choice but to return after paying a non-refundable adoption fee, but instead the fact that, as soon as we returned the non-litter-box-trained cat to the rescue group, they put that same cat right back up for adoption on their website with the exact same write-up/description as before! The next adopter will most likely experience the same issues with this cat as we did and then find themselves in the exact same situation as we are now - swindled out of an adoption fee and cat-less! We do NOT recommend dealing with this rescue group! There are plenty of other cat rescue organizations in the area who have to be more honest and less shady in their business practices...
Read moreI'm writing this review on behalf of my mom, whose adoption application was recently denied. A few months ago my mom lost her sweet boy, "Kitty", and now feels ready to adopt another cat and provide a loving home. Her application was denied because Cat Tales has a "two resident pet limit policy for renters". Acknowledging I did not see the application myself, I would implore Cat Tales to reconsider the way they are evaluated, looking at potential adopters through a more personal lens. My mom rents but she has lived at the same address for 5+ years with no intention to relocate away from Cat Tales. The "two resident pets" are small, gentle, well-behaved Shih-Tzu's, both which came along after she had Kitty for many years and have grown up with a cat. Kitty was adopted as a kitten and spent his entire life with my mom--days filled with love, safety, inside, with comfortable spots to soak in the sun and a full-belly. In my 33 years we have always had pets. Each and every one is/was fussed over, snuggled in bed, fed, happy, warm, loved, visited the vet routinely, photographed, held, celebrated, and ultimately mourned deeply. She and I are puzzled, and quite upset, that with over 3 million cats entering U.S. shelters last year, 41% of them ending up euthanized, that a qualified and eligible adopter can be turned away without contextual consideration. We have not lost sight of the fact that the non-kill shelters which genuinely care about animals take the responsibility of choosing an adopter earnestly. You've learned from previous experience which precautions to take when reviewing applications, volunteers giving their time to find the good homes. However, I sincerely ask you to revise your application and/or screening process. There is absolutely no warranted reason my mom--a veteran pet-owner, mother, hospice nurse and grandmother with a quiet, clean, stable home--was turned down to adopt. My mom (and myself) are true animal lovers--every shape, size, species of critter and creature have been picked up from the side of the road by us--and we are dumbfounded that she, of all people, was found unfit. Because of that there is a cat missing out. Please consider there are cases where the commendable effort to ensure a cats safety is simultaneously keeping them from their happy ending. We admire the work and dedication required to rescue the innocent and my review is not meant to detract from that or condemn your process. My objectives are to provide that personal context and provoke a change that could end up contributing to a common goal of finding all sheltered animals a worthy home. I'm giving 4 stars because I do not want to lower your rating, deterring others from adoption. I'm attaching a photo of our beloved Kitty to my review--we...
Read moreCat Tales was wonderful. My husband and I lost our first fur-baby back in March this year. I was heartbroken and even with my other kitty still around, I knew I needed another. I applied to adopt from Cat Tales and a few other places. Their process is a bit more thorough than others so it took longer. We went to go see some cats from other rescues but I didn't click with any. We then heard from Cat Tales and they asked what we were looking for. We told them and they selected 3 that would be good fits. We had a feeling about one named Logan, so we set up a meeting time. We met and took him home right away. It was a transition for sure bringing a new cat into the house. It was especially traumatic for my other cat Luna who isn't very social. Logan had no fear and has so much love to give. He kept trying to play with her only to get hissed at and evaded. The team at cat tales was so nice and emailed me ideas on how to help introduce them and keep Logan entertained so he wouldn't bother Luna as much. After a while he learned she didn't want to play as much as he did since she is older and she learned he isn't evil and has even sometimes initiated play with him. Logan is a hit with every friend and family member who visits. He has so much love to give. Last night my husband and I were on the couch and Logan was laying over both of our laps and my heart felt so full. I'm so thankful to Cat Tales for matching him with us. I will absolutely be contacting Cat Tales whenever we are ready for another furry...
