Pros ā¢Selection - Easily the best selection of any game store in DFW. ā¢Store maintenance - The store is organized and clean and it is easy to find what you are looking for.
Cons ⢠Customer Service - I want to preface that this is not everyone that works there. I've been 3 times and made 2 phone calls to this store and of those 5 interactions, experienced employees being curt/rude 3 of the 5 interactions. ⢠Trade Ins - Now that I have traded something in, I can say the credit isn't terrible. The initial offer was about 43% credit and a second offer was bumped up to about 45%. I was told the cash offer is 10% less which is on par with other stores in DFW. The issue is specific policies around trade ins. Firstly, they will not itemize for trade ins. This is the first store that refused this for me. Most stores don't volunteer it but will when asked. Retro Madness, for example, has done this for me for every trade in(probably 15 times). Also, if you don't offer it, that's fine, but the way the employee said it just felt gross. Something along the lines of "Don't even ask if we can itemize because we can't and I'm just gonna give you an offer for the lot" without even looking at me. Also, I was polite for the entire interaction despite the condescending tone. Secondly, the secrecy around the value offered is off-putting and just feels slimy. I live about 45 minutes away and didn't want to pack up a bunch of stuff for a bad offer, so I called ahead to get a possible range of value for trade ins, of course, assuming condition and popularity is of desire to them. They very condescendingly refused and talked to me like I was dumb for asking. Again, I've done this with several stores, including Retro Madness and GameXchange and they have obliged. Game Over did not give a range either, but were at least polite with their response. ⢠Trade In credit/Taxes - This part may be a legality issue so I don't know if it's something that other stores are doing wrong, but typically, at other stores, they subtract my trade credit from the price and then I pay taxes on the amount I am paying. Here, they use your credit but then you pay tax on the complete value of the item. Again, idk what is necessarily the right way, but just know that when calculating your trade credit. In my case, it was the difference of taxes being $12 like I typically experience and $84 that I experienced here. So my complete trade value took another hit of $72 bringing it down to 41.5 % trade value
Stores I would recommend over this one: Retro Madness Retro Game Rehab Kennedale Trading...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFirst of all, let me say, if youāre interested and in the neighborhood this is absolutely a place you should stop and check out!
Their selection of consoles, games, and collectibles is unmatched. They have some really unique stuff and itās an absolute blast to check out what new stuff is in stock.
That being said, the quality control leaves something to be desired. I recently purchased a handheld console from here, at double the estimated value. The prices are fine for this kind of business, you typically pay more to see items on hand, and have the instant gratification of not having to wait for your item to arrive via mail. The console was in okay condition, and seemed to work fine until I arrived home and began playing a game that required the L & R shoulder buttons. Turns out that the L shoulder button was unresponsive.
āBummer!ā
Thankfully this shop has an excellent warranty policy, so I took it back to exchange it for another one.
Which would have been fine, but the only other one available was one that was in a box, which had a small upcharge v.s. the one I had just returned. I wasnāt tripping, I figured this one was in slightly better condition and Iād pay a little extra for that.
Except that when I returned home to test the device with a game that required the shoulder buttons⦠THIS TIME THE R SHOULDER BUTTON DIDNT WORK! š
At this point, Iām just kind of stuck with a system thatās not completely functional as I canāt merit a third trip to Watauga for the same issue.
Not a bad store, but Iām worried that items are taken from trade-in and placed directly to shelves without much examination. If you do intend to buy something from here, I would strongly advise to test the item THOROUGHLY before leaving.
You shouldnāt have to, but thatās all I can recommend for this...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLately, it seems like this place is competing with Game Over for worst game store in the metroplex. The owners and their staff clearly do not know their product as they overcharge on everything from common titles to rarities. They appear to look up ebay/amazon pricing, then add an extra $20 on top of that. This may work on these born again "retro gamers" who suddenly after 20 years realize that yes, the NES/SNES still exists and jump on the hype bandwagon. Same "gamers" who were no where to be found when the true fans were building their collections and be laughed at for "playing that old crap" in the late 90's. But that's another rant. When called out about tying to blatantly overcharge, and that everywhere else is virtually cheaper, customers are told "then go on ebay then". Instead of being competitive, they are rather confrontational.
Not only are the prices bad but the service is as well. Several times I have been in or called up there to ask about an item in stock and am told "We have it, but are saving it" or it "hasn't been cleaned yet so we won't sell". When asked if they could clean up something that was of interest, I get told it'd be ready when they get around to it. Most of the staff and owners have this general rude attitude. With the exception of one terrible corporation mentioned in the beginning of this review, any other store has been happy to clean off their games and provide them for sale.
This didn't happen overnight. I've given this place many chances until now. I've been visiting many game stores for the past 20 years and never had as bad of experience as I have here. Buying games shouldn't be this complicated or a drain on your wallet. I'd advise any serious collectors to avoid this place and...
