First of all let me tell you: I never, ever review anything, I just don't take the time to do it, but this time I'm going to write a review about Best Buy's Geek Squad at Watertown MA. I've been working very hard on a voluntier project for some days and suddenly my computer wouldn't start up anymore and on top of that: I didn't have a back up and the project was due in two days!! So what I did? I took my computer to The first place that I could think about: Geek Squad (I guess too much TV advertisement ), to get a back up or at least to recover this one single document, I left my computer there and one technician called me two hours later telling me that my hard drive was doing "clicking sound" and it was too damaged and that they couldn't get any data from it! Total nightmare!! I was shocked, because when I left my computer there I couldn't hear any clicking sound, but what could I do besides that going there and getting my computer back ? It was when I found information about X-Files Recovery Data (Assembly Row), and I have to tell that I am beyond happy for it, Chris took the time to look at my computer, do the back up, not only for the document that I needed, but for every data in my hard drive, and better than that, I left his store next day with a usable computer again and for a price that I can afford, before I forget I left his store with the same hard drive inside the computer and working!! No clicking sound at all!! I'm very disappointed with this first (and last) experience...
Read moreI don't review much but I have to give the highest 5 star review to the Geek Squad here. Briefly: Dropped my 6 month old laptop bought at Best Buy, broke hinge. They told me that it wasnt under warranty since I dropped it and would take 2-3 weeks to assess and fix, with $89 initial cost and more later if needed. I got it back in one week and was refunded the $89 since they said it wasn't a big deal and considered it under warranty. Good as new. Exceeded expectations big time!!! Certainly much better than MicroCenter Cambridge, where I took the same laptop, and they said it would be minimum $300 for labor only. Go here, not there!
Update 2 years later: I was tripped on a subway platform and my laptop fell and dented the same spot as above! Not as bad this time since it was in two bags, and the computer turns on fine. I'm typing on it now. But I can't open the lid all the way. Took it to the same Geek Squad above, figuring this would be easy, since it didn't turn on at all the previous time and they fixed it. This time, they said they no longer repair computers at all! They said their policies have changed. My 5 star review two years ago would be nothing now, since they say they no longer repair. So I'm reducing it to 3 stars. If I'm wrong maybe someone can let Geek Squad know. In the meantime, I'll use my computer with the screen only partially up. It works and I can see it. But it would have been nice if Geek Squad tried to fix it. I think it would have taken...
Read moreI have had both excellent service a 5 on the rating scale and a very poor experience a 1.
The 5 involved a computer issue gone bad for which BB without hassle accepted full responsibility offering my choice of new computers complete with training as replacement. It was no more than was due, but certainly in this day far beyond expectation. This store bent over backwards and fully rectified an unfortunate situation.
The 1 involved a year old Samsung Galaxy Note 9 phone that of a sudden went haywire. I chose to talk with an agent, who spoke too quickly despite my asking him to slow, and in the end was unable to assist me telling me at 5.55: on Sunday that I needed to make an appointment. Today, Monday, I have been unable to do this after 1 hour...
