Love this. I love that it was in the quaint town and not in a big muddy field. The quaint town added to the ambience. Loved the mini sauerkraut donuts and the German sauerkraut Sunday. Also loved how many houses were decorated for Halloween. Waynesville is a charming town with a Great Planning of festivals. The only thing I would do to improve the festival is have a few fewer vendors in the center of town where the shops are, so that people could meander in and out of the shops and the shops could get more business. The shops are blocked by all the Vendors and tents, so if they have 400 vendors may be cut back to 300 vendors, and not be in front of the doors to the shops, so that people can get in and out of the darling shops as well! I do realize that people could figure out how to walk on the sidewalk and get to the shops, but it is a huge hassle, and I really didn’t see anyone going into any of the shops they were walking up and down the street of the vendors. Did find some fun Decour from the vendors, but I also love the shops very much....
Read moreA sauerkraut festival with NO sauerkraut samples. 200+ craft booths, only 8 booths with food, 6 booths that served sauerkraut, only 1 booth that sold sauerkraut to bring home (in a plastic container). Forget this place if you are vegan, lactose intolerant or have an egg allergy. EVERYTHING contained milk or egg. Do not come here hungry...a line around the block for any food at all. Sauerkraut food consisted of: sauerkraut sprinkled on frozen pizza, sauerkraut balls that are more egg-batter than kraut, beef cabbage rolls (no meat-free), "sauerkraut Sunday" for $8 which was sauerkraut topped with cheese, sour cream, bacon bits and olives. MISSED OPPORTUNITY to feature: other fermented foods like sourdough, other German foods like mustard and pretzels, pickled foods (not a pickle in sight!) and sauerkraut varieties like "red cabbage kraut". Liked the talented Bluegrass band and appreciated the very few vendors who were at least in line with a German or Polish theme. Will not be back and do not recommend unless you're searching for holiday...
Read moreThey have some very nice booths but they gouge people on things like water. I believe a bottle of water was 3 dollars and the day we went it was really warm. I brought my own water bottle and my wife and I drank it and couldn't find any water less than 3 dollars. It was so warm I wouldnt doubt if some people got heat stroke or something else from the heat and lack of water. McDonald's even had a black tarp over their drink station so people couldn't get refills or water. But they were selling hot chocolate for a dollar go figure. We also had to pay 5 for parking at a church of all places. It seems like I am ranting but it was ridiculous and I don't get bothered by much. We needed to drink 4 bottles to stay hydrated. But there were nice and unique booths. It is also a very pretty little town. The crowds were elbow to elbow but that didn't bother me. I...
