You guys have been begging for this one, so here we are at Westland Mall. From the outside, this mall honestly had so much potential, and the fact that they’re actively doing construction on one of the entrances tells me they’re not ready to let it go just yet. Inside, there were a few signs of life, including Shoe Carnival, a Chinese restaurant, and an Italian restaurant that looked like it might be closed. There was also a beauty supply store and a nail spot, both shut down. This section was definitely the busiest part of the mall, but the moment you turn the corner… it drops off fast. Like dramatic downhill, lights-on-but-nobody’s-home vibes. You can feel where the foot traffic just disappears, and it really makes you think about how much potential this place still has if someone actually invested in it. Dying mall energy, but not dead yet #dyingmall #burlington #iowa #abandoned

I really want to highlight inside Westland Mall is honestly one of the most meaningful parts of this whole mall. They have a community center offering free pantry items, diapers, and basic necessities, which I think is so cool and genuinely needed. If you’re able to donate, you should, and if you need it, that’s literally why it’s there. No shame, just community. And right across from it was this old vintage-style arcade, and I said girl… let me check this out. It gave first date vibes, super cute, super nostalgic, and everything inside seemed pretty affordable. Such an unexpected contrast, care and community on one side, fun and play on the other, and honestly one of my favorite moments in this mall. #dyingmall #burlington #iowa

Westland Mall really felt like a before-and-after slideshow you didn’t ask for. You can tell this mall used to be a full shopping destination, with a layout clearly built for big-name clothing chains, specialty stores, and heavy foot traffic. Now, most of those old storefronts are either completely empty, gated off, or stuck in that “coming soon” limbo that never actually comes. The contrast is wild because what’s left is basically holding the place together by a thread. You’ve got Shoe Carnival, Buckle, and Hibbett as the main retail anchors, plus a movie theater and one Chinese restaurant still pulling people in. Everything else feels like remnants of what once was, long corridors of closed clothing stores that look like they haven’t been touched in years. It’s giving former mall glory days vs. current survival mode. You can see the potential, but you can also see exactly where time, online shopping, and lack of investment took over. This mall isn’t dead, but she’s definitely living off memories. #dyingmall #burlington #iowa #abandoned

It's a great mall with potential. Always clean and the few shops within are good too. It just sucks that it closes so early. Additionally, bringing in more places to shop and eat along with extending operating hours would bring back the appeal. People want to be able to spend time in a third space and with so few of those around, this mall is one of the only places left to do that here. Despite the ease of online shopping, so many still frequent brick and mortar stores for what they can. Variety and appeal would do so well here. Give people a reason to want to shop and stay awhile. Another summer is approaching too- what about having a place for the youth to congregate? The arcade closes when the mall does,so there's some lost revenue there. The lack of shops that appeal to the youth is also a loss to what their and their parents pockets would provide too. This mall could be so much for the businesses and community if it was truly...

Poor Westland Mall. It so much wants to be a thriving shopping mecca, but like almost every mall in the country it has seen many of its stores close up. You still have Marshalls as an anchor store, plus the odd and eclectic Warehouse Bargain store. There's also a handful of smaller shops, like Claire's and Shoe Carnival. And weirdly, this is the place to go if you need to renew your driver's license. But Westland's best days are sadly behind her, and I fear that one day the management will decide that the electricity bill doesn't warrant the revenue from its tenants and close it up for good. I really hope that doesn't happen, because I like Westland Mall. In this day of curbside pickup and Amazon, malls like this are a dying breed. So head over there, give some of the merchants a thrill by plunking down your hard-earned money, and maybe breathe a little life into a relic...

I recommend nobody going to the mall kiosk to get your phone screen repaired. I had paid him over $160 to replace my screen which he did. Not even two days later my phone starts shutting off with a full battery. Called apple sent my phone into them thinking it was something on my end. Nope! Talked to apple care and the issues im having is because of the screen he put in. Went out to him to see if he could work with me considering i gave him almost 200$ and apple replaced the bad screen. Completely unprofessional and refused to work with me anyway had the receipt with me and all. So i sugest elsewhere besides the kiosk at the mall, unless you want your hard earned money taken....
