Every year I take a small group of my physics students to experience playing a game on ice, a great connection to the physics of friction. Johnny's Icehouse provides a great space for us for this learning experience. We sign up for an hour of Broomball and the students have a blast!

It offers bleacher seating on an elevated level, which provides a great view from anywhere. Note that there are a lot of stairs to get from street level to the seating area. They have a bar that's open during most adult games, even those on weekend afternoons. The best part is the onsite parking-- free street parking outside the front door and a garage that costs $2 per car, if you can actually find someone inside to pay. Read moreLet's get right to the point with basically the only negative of this rink. The drive is never easy and parking is just bad. If the lot under the building is full your basically flipping a coin if your car is in one piece when you go back outside. Sounds bad but it's the truth unfortunately.
As for the building they seem to have put some money back into it after the Hawks left. The place is clean and the locker rooms are large and nice especially for older kids. The ice is always really good and there is a good bar...
