Bait and switch!
I am creating a guest room in my home with 2 custom twin beds on wheels that can also be used outside on my deck. I already had a great 7" thick mattress and needed a 2nd of the same height. I received a flyer from American Freight that offered am extra firm support hotel-motel (everybody loves hotel beds right?) quality twin mattress for only $39 for each piece. Being that the bed is a platform bed I only needed the mattress but I could also use a new one for my Queen bed.
I called yesterday and spoke to a sales rep, told him it was an 80 mile round trip for me and I didn't want to waste my time and gas. We spoke about the mattress, I asked specific questions, and he assured my that he had 7 different models at that price including 2 models of the 7" thick one that I needed. He also said it would be no problem to buy just the mattress at that price, "c'mon down and pick one out".
Today I was excited as I drove the 40 miles to get there and as John said I was greeted by a smiling salesperson within seconds of walking in the door. I explained my phone call as he led me to the mattress section. He pointed to these 3" thick things that looked kind of like the pillow top from a mattress and said that those are the $39 mattresses but they are only sold in sets. I knelt down on one and could feel the spring from the box spring underneath it right through the mattress. This thing was pure garbage and I wouldn't buy it for my dogs to sleep on! I asked the sales rep where the 7" thick mattresses that the rep had told me about on the phone were. His first response was the guy must have either been lying or they sold them all. I told him that the guy told me there were lots of them to choose from so he said the guy was just lying. Then he walked me along their line of mattresses and gave me the price for each. I knelt on each one and could feel the springs in all of them until we got to the $219 per piece set. He then left me to check them out and said he'd be back to answer any questions.
I was mad, really mad. Between contemplating burning the place to the ground or taking advantage of our over 2 million facebook followers and calling channel 9 news to do an expose (I work in the media) lack of jail time won out so here I am.
On the way out the door I told all the sales reps loud enough so every customer in the store could hear me that I was not upset with them personally, but their misleading sales tactics were criminal. I wasted 4 gallons of gas and over an hour of my time when I could have purchased a great mattress less than a mile from my home for $80.
I am a smart, well educated consumer that usually doesn't get caught up in things like this but I was very specific in my questioning to make sure that they had exactly what I needed before making the drive. Beware American Freight on Ellis Road in...
   Read more*update 11/29/24: zero stars! When my furniture got delivered back in February, there was an issue with the dresser/mirror piece for my bedroom. I was told "we can bring the one we have if you're ok with it being damaged" I'm like no I've paid all this money for brand new furniture I don't want anything damaged. So the dresser they brought me does not match the bed-set. My bed frame/headboard was not put together correctly and when I called about it, was told they would send someone out again to take a look never did. Few months later, around August I notice that every other day a screw is on the floor by my headboard, seemingly having fallen off the bed. Then one day it completely detaches from the bed, so now it's loud and lopsided. I called the store who directed me to the furniture protection plan that I had purchased. They directed me to the manufacturer because the protection plan doesn't start until the manufacturers warranty ends in 1 year. So I call them and schedule an appt. for someone to repair the bed. I get an email 2 days later saying since American Freight is going out of business my appt is cancelled and they can no longer help me. I call the protection plan people again who direct me to the store where I'm told nothing can be done for me, nothing refunded just a bunch of nothing. Also, whole new staff than when I went there in February (I was told) and each time you call they're rude and dismissive. So now I have a broken bed that I haven't even had for 1 year, the useless protection plan because I do have other furniture from them but now they're going out of business đ

   Read moreI stopped by a large furniture âchain storeâ before I visited American Freight Furniture today. After selecting a possible choice at this large chain store I was informed by their kind salesman it would be a week before it could be delivered and there would be an extra $50 set up fee and if I wanted the furniture sooner that would cost me another $50. I politely left that very large store and headed over to American Frieght to see their selection of recliners.
I initially avoided the sales folks because I wanted to see for myself what their selection was before I sought out help. Susan approached me in a kind and courteous manner to see if she could be of assistance. I was in luck at American Freight Furniture as I found a recliner very similar to the one I was looking at in the large chain store. I asked Susan how soon I could take delivery of my selection and she said: âhow about today?â
Within 3 1/2 hours of my initial purchase at American Freight Furniture, my new blue leather recliner was delivered with exceptional professionalism by Wes and Jody. They called an hour and a half before the delivery to make sure I was going to be home.
This turned out to be an awesome day thanks in large part to Susan the sales lady at American Freight Furniture and Wes and Jody their contracted delivery drivers. I saved over $300 on my purchase, it was delivered the same day and I couldnât have asked for a better experience.
