I love my 2021 Tesla Model Y—it’s a five-star car. But the dealership experience? Zero stars.
In March 2024, we ordered a used 2021 Model Y online. The process was smooth, the price was fair, and it came with some nice extras. We were excited to pick it up, bringing our $4,998 down payment to complete the purchase.
Then the nightmare began.
On delivery day, we met with Sean, who was friendly, but the car was filthy. There were visible stains, dirt, and even marinara sauce on the driver’s side speaker. Sean wiped some of it off, which only made me wonder—was this car even cleaned? He assured us they would replace the speaker grill with the caked on marinara sauce, and since I had already sold my old car, I reluctantly agreed to take delivery.
We signed the paperwork, got into the car, and immediately got a service warning. The air conditioning didn’t work. We hadn’t even left the lot. At this point, we had to wait another three hours for a loaner car, causing both of us to miss more work than expected. We barely made it to the Flyers game that night.
Two days later, we picked up the car again. The speaker grill had been replaced, but the car was still dirty. Frustrated but just wanting to move on, we took it home. That’s when things took an even worse turn.
While transferring our belongings into the car, I found chocolate inside the passenger seatback pocket. It had a label that read, “Do not give to children.” At first, I thought that was odd. Then I realized—it was psilocybin mushroom chocolate. This dealership had sent me home with illegal drugs in my car.
Furious, I drove straight back. The employee took the chocolate quickly and went to the back. When he returned, he apologized and said they would finally detail the car—something that should have been done before delivery.
At this point, I was beyond frustrated and planned to escalate my complaint to a manager. Then, about a week later, I received a check from Tesla for $4,998—my deposit. I assumed it was their way of making things right. While it wasn’t a formal apology, at least it was something to acknowledge the horrible experience.
Fast forward to last week. I got a call from Tesla Finance saying they had mistakenly sent me that refund and now wanted it back.
After three trips to the dealership, a major service issue, illegal substances left in my car, and hours of lost time, Tesla offered me nothing to smooth things over. Not even an apology from management.
And speaking of management—good luck trying to speak to anyone. I went back last week to escalate things, and an employee told me, "I’ll forward this to a manager, but I can’t promise they’ll call." One week later, I was proven right—no response.
Tesla makes amazing cars, but after this experience, I would never buy from this dealership again. I highly recommend buying from a private seller to save money and avoid the headache. If you run into any issues like I did, don’t expect...
Read moreExtremely poor service, what a disappointment! The service advisor could not have been more dismissive and rude. He told my partner many times how busy they were, and kept walking away mid sentence. I love the car, and had a minor issue where my 2022 Y lift-gate was pulling away from the top of the vehicle, clearly a warranty item as it only recently started becoming misaligned and not shutting properly. We were told due to a tiny pinpoint dimple at the very bottom of the tailgate (from a shopping cart bumping the weak aluminum), that the car had “accident damage and will not be looked at”. Extremely upsetting, as the Y is having tailgate hinge issues as many have documented online. Due to this, one of the tail lights was currently not working, and I asked to have that looked at. Not only did they charge me labor hours for that, but they didn’t even resolve that issue, after stating on the invoice that they resolved it. Upon arrival at home, and popping it off the car, it was simply unplugged. This leads me to believe that no one even checked it for me, after charging me. Extremely upset and disappointed. This is a far cry from the pleasurable experience that mobile service team has provided, as they told me Tesla service would fix my issue. Ultimately Tesla did nothing to help me with any of my issues, and just wanted me ushered out the door as fast as humanly possible. I have never experienced such poor quality service from any dealership before. What a...
Read moreI went in to have a creaking noise corrected. The Tesla technician at this location wanted to charge me $2,900 to basically replace every part of the suspension system (lower arms, upper arms, compliance lateral, bushings, and struts) because he wasn’t educated or skillful enough to figure out where the creaking noise was coming from.
I could not afford to pay $2,900, so I asked the shop which part was best to start with. The technician ended up just replacing the lower control arms for $1,800 because they claimed the bushings were torn.
The technician then proceeded to add notes to the work order that all the noise issues were resolved, which was false.
I ended up going on YouTube and finding videos of other people who had the same noise issue, which actually turned out to be the upper ball joint.
I did the corrections in the video since my car is not under warranty, and now all of my noise issues are gone.
Imagine regular people on YouTube having a higher level of skillset than a certified technician in diagnosing and isolating an issue down to the exact spot, making an accurate calculated guess, and having a cost effective solution to the problem.
Thanks God...
