"Support local" is the saying, and typically I buy into that at every opportunity I get. When local screws me over, however, that's when it becomes very easy to punch a few buttons online and redirect my dollars to big name vendors who not only have the same small ordinary product for one-quarter the price, but who can also have it in my mailbox two days later. Then when you call them (Gratiot Outdoor) to try to get a refund on the product you already paid for two weeks earlier and have yet to receive, they recognize your number and purposely ignore your call. Classy, very professional. This isn't the first time they've shoved it up my rear end either. Several years ago I bought a large Cub Cadet accessory (not a cheap one, either) that turned out to be pure junk. When I tried to return that one I was told it was a "special order" item and was not eligible for return/refund. When you don't stock anything, everything becomes a "special order" item now doesn't it? I decided to let that slide back then and not make a big fuss because, you know, LOCAL LOCAL LOCAL. But I've had enough of being made to feel like I'm bothering them simply by handing them my money.

Five years ago when Jon was there the storefront was well stocked, neat, organized and looked like a business you wanted to patronize. Now it looks like the place was looted and turned upside down. Friendly, knowledgeable people; quality products; fair prices. I was looking for a small replacement part for my line trimmer. While they could get it, they also recommended a better replacement head. Although the head is obviously more expensive than a small plastic part, this replacement head will save me an indescribable amount of time loading line, and it appears as if I'll no longer have the internal twists and friction burn/melt that occurred inside the old head.
