Senior Thrift — Local services in Whidbey Island

'Thrift' Stores are traditionally a good place to buy stuff VERY inexpensively; Senior Thrift is no longer that kind of store. When they receive donated items at almost NO COST to themselves, they still jack-up the asking price; probably researching recent eBAy sales of those items. By doing this they are cutting-out an entire segment of the community that rely on buying items cheaply so they can then sell them either on ebay or elsewhere. EXAMPLE: average, dusty, vinyl record albums priced at $7 and UP...?? Come on! A pair of used military rubber boots for $75...?? No thanks. With prices like these, the stock just sits there, piling up dust; when if they priced stuff cheaper, they'd be turning over fresh stock all the time..! Oh wait a minute..that would mean more WORK for them, huh..? OK I...

The Community Thrift Store is an amazing store. It’s roomy, clean, and has a great staff, as well as community volunteers that keep all the merchandise organized. They offer a wide selection of items for reasonable prices, and they have daily sales. I bought a small fan today, and it was 25% off. I found a pajama t-shirt on the $1 rack that says “Make Today Amazing.” I found an original painting that I love. One never knows what you might find when you stop to shop. They have a great book selection, toys, clothes, shoes, jewelry, a Christmas Shop (year round), housewares, art, DVDs, and CDs. South Whidbey has some great thrift stores and they all support great causes. Proceeds from the Community Thrift Store support Island County...

I used to love this thrift store, but now that they have changed everything, (where their money goes for example) it is so overpriced I hardly go anymore. For example: I wanted to see a necklace that was in the glass case, the tag said 925 $20.00, but when the lady handed it to me I noticed it was plated copper! I work with jewelry so I noticed it right away but someone else may not have! So I gave it back to her and told her to at least set it aside to be re-tagged/priced and what did she do?! She shrugged and said that she was sure they knew what they were doing and put it back in the glass case!! Unbelievable! It's like all they care about is money now that they are keeping...
