First off, they stock fresh (not frozen) BEEF RIBS!!! I was told about this butcher shop last summer and for some reason didn’t check it out until today because it is a bit of a haul from my house. It was completely worth the trip down!! I walked in and was immediately greeted by this guy named Jeremy (I think he owns the place). He was SUPER helpful and showed me a whole bunch of different options I had for beef ribs in stock. They have a great selection and he basically said that if they didn’t have it, they could get it. The customer service is definitely top notch. They were so friendly that I could have walked out of there carrying a bag of garbage and would have been happy…but I walked out of there carrying a bag of heavenly beef ribs!! Don’t feel like smoking your own…they have them already smoked!! Also, the pricing is very competitive to just about anywhere and you are getting very high quality. I am now switching to this shop for everything that I’m going to smoke this summer. Costco might be a little cheaper per pound but the quality of the meat here looked better. We will see after a few cooks. The service is completely worth a few bucks extra though. They had some really good advice that you aren’t going to get at some warehouse store and they actually smoke meats there so they know what they’re talking about. I would tell anyone to give these guys a visit before going anywhere else in the Twin Cities.

I have been going to this butchery since I was a kid. Now 43, I went in yesterday to get my husband a nice steak for his 45th birthday. The man who helped me and my son was super friendly, down to earth, very knowledgeable, took time to talk through the steaks with me and even went into how they butcher bear, when my 5th grader asked a bunch of questions about it. I ended up with the Tomahawk, which I was leaning towards and then after the butcher went on about how good it was, how to grill it and how excited he was for my husband to try one...it was the only obvious choice. The butcher, knowing it was my husbands bday, took extra time to wrap it up nice so I could present it as a gift for him to open! This man was so excited for my husband, a person he never met, to try the Tomahawk for the first time. I really felt like I was just talking with one of my husband's buddies. This is a long winded post to say, it really makes a huge difference when you feel comfortable and feel like your time and business really matter to a store. Everything these days is so expensive while customer service feels like its a second thought...so I will gladly hand over my money to a local spot, with fun, knowledgeable and kind employees any day...maybe not the Tomahawk every time (sorry husband) but for sure one of the other MANY many options! Thank you, "butcher guy"...my husband LOVED the Tomahawk!!

Finally made my way to Flicker Meats in White Bear Lake — and let me tell you, I don’t write reviews unless something is either exceptionally good or spectacularly bad. I gave the place a quick once-over, You can usually gauge a shop pretty quickly, and then it happened. From behind the counter, I locked eyes with a burly meat wizard. “What are you eating tonight?” he asked. Now, as any seasoned meat bro knows, the move here is dealer’s choice. I told him I was a fiscally responsible carnivore, and asked for the best bang-for-my-buck cut. That simple ask sparked a glorious meat journey. He had me at “shoulder cuts” — beautifully marbled, underrated gems. Then he asked if I’d ever had Teres Major. I hadn’t. I was intrigued. I was sold. We talked shop — exotic wild game, ultra-premium local beef that rivals Japanese A5, and more. The cuts are prepackaged in a variety of sizes, which is perfect if you’re just looking to sample the goods. End result? Incredible selection, world-class customer service, and a butcher who’s clearly passionate about the craft. Highly recommend. I’ll definitely be back — Tell them Harry sent you.

Flicker is the best business I've ever patronized, period. I've been a loyal customer for seven or eight years now and have had only great experiences visiting probably once a week over that time frame.

Product - the brats are the best in the world and I'll put my life savings against that. The variety they make are universally great and ever changing. If you can tolerate spice, try the ghost rider brats - they will knock your socks off, in a good way. The selection of beef cuts is great, and the staff is very willing to take special orders. In the coolers Flicker has just about every nasty bit I want for making delicious stews. Their homemade meat sticks, jerky and "trail mix" are a staple of my camping trips. The smoked ribs on Thursdays are great. The made to order deli sandwiches are a wonderful, affordable lunch. And they always have delicious free samples!

Service - even if Flicker had middle of the road products (which they don't!), I'd still come here just as often for the service. Whoever is their hiring person should get a big raise. The staff are pleasant, polite, knowledgeable, cheerful, competent and very very helpful to a fault. And many of them are very young men! I can't say enough good things about them. I am always greeted with a smile, and leave with one on my face.

Go to Flicker, guys. They're a...
