I'm writing a review because I do NOT come from a fitness background and I feel like people should know how instructive, patient and motivating the folks at The Lab have been.
Something I have a hard time with at regular gyms is that I want to be able to push myself to build strength, but I dont have the background in weight training to feel confident that I will be executing exercises appropriately. Not only is it embarassing to dumbly flail about on different gym machinery, it's potentially dangerous. I've tried other trendy fitness programs, such at Orange Theory, but I love the strength building aspects of CrossFit and those Orange Theory classes, while they are fantastically motivating when it comes to cardio execises, they are usually so over burdened and crowded that I hardly get any insight about whether I'm even perfoming the exercises correctly-- I'm way uncoordinated y'all. I've actually encountered this over crowding problem at other crossfit gyms, as well, but it's defiitely less common.
What I love about The Lab, and the trainers there particularly, is that while I can see that they are busy, and they can't always parent me, they not only give me instruction, but they celebrate me when I execute things correctly, and most importantly, they make me feel ok when I don't know how to do something right. It's so helpful to feel accepted, supported and celebrated. You guys are just the motivation an uncoordinated girl like me needs.
Keep it up guys! I wish all gyms could make me feel as empowered as you...
Read moreMy husband and I have been attending classes at TiltShift for 6 months now. Prior to this, we had an incredibly negative experience at another local CrossFit gym which completely turned us off to it. Luckily, one of the coaches at this gym happens to be my best friend Maria so she encouraged us to give TiltShift a try. I didn't believe her when she told us this gym had an incredibly strong, supportive and diverse community of CrossFitters, but let me tell you, I believe her now! My husband and I absolutely love this gym. Every single coach is kind, supportive, knowledgable and encouraging. I have never in my 32 years of life actually liked going to a gym, or EVER developed any sort of community at one. Every class I attend I am making new friends and growing a larger community. It's amazing!
People of all ability levels, sizes, and ages work out together and everyone encourages each other and cheers each other on. This is TRULY a supportive and uplifting community. I am making amazing progress in my strength training and feel stronger and healthier everyday because of this gym.
If I could give one million stars I would. Chelsea has really created something special here. Thank you for all...
Read moreTiltshift may be one of the best Crossfit places in Seattle. coaching is 10/10, membership make-up 10/10, and the programming is definitely 10/10.
Of note: I have been a member of a number of different CF boxes in Seattle over the last 10-12 years, so I feel like I can say confidently that Tiltshift stands out from the rest. Here's why.
Keeping it real: the coaching here is much more centered around achievement of YOUR goals, not the gym's goals. This leads to a place where you can feel included and empowered to do your best and that's enough. Where CF gets its bad rep is often rooted in the idea that the whiteboard must be all massive weights and Rx PRs. Don't get me wrong, Tiltshift is challenging and you'll get pushed, but artful coaching leads that pushing to be from inside you, not at you.
Community: See above. The result of less bro dude 'tude from the coaching team leads to a stronger and more accepting community. I'm in decent shape and I'm outgoing and social, but I've ALWAYS felt intimidated at Crossfit gyms, I just figured it came with the territory. Until now.
So sign up, drop in if you're traveling, come by and see how great you can feel in the right...
