Went in yesterday evening with friend from California. Had planned all week to go. He wanted a sweatshirt to take home. And mostly wanted to try some moonshine recipes. We never got served. . The bartender was waiting tables. There were also 2 other customers came in when we did. They ask for samplers, she told them she had it, but did not have time to serve to them. They waited on her several more minutes, then got up and left. We waited 15 minutes, and was told 3 times she would be back in a min. We also left with no Service. A Distillery with no dedicated Bartender not good. We called back a couple hrs later asking if they now had a bartender, going to go back. Lady who answered the phone was making up excuses, instead of finding solutions. Not friendly so we didn’t go back, I would have apologized to customers for not getting waited on. Made a point of getting them back over. I would have said, come on back, first drink on us. Didn’t expect a free drink, but apology would have been nice. We Spent our...
Read more2/25 They treat their moonshine like top shelf, so drinks are $10. Chicken wings are overcooked and could be called chicken Jerky. They have a steak tip baked potato. Potato is nice. Steak is gristle and not edible. Appetizer or meal, doesn't matter, they all come out together. 12/28/24 - tried food again. Oni9n rings were good. Steak tips were tough. Chicken salad sandwich was tasty but not much chicken salad. Also found a bone in the chicken salad. Customer attention- not really- asked for straws for our iced tea-10 minutes later got them myself. 6/8/24 - finally ate at Call's. Food is from a box and mostly deep fried. Poppers, 6 for $10. SW Eggrolls, $10 and over fried. Hamburger- not freshly made patties, they were dry and tasteless. Nashville chicken and chips. Good sauce, dry chicken and 1/8 inch sliced potatoes, not chips. Had to ask for napkins and silverware. Items like salt and...
Read moreVisiting from TX and while doing a tour of NC stumbled across the Call Family Distillery. It was only 9:00am - the app said "OPEN," but as we got closer to the door there was a CLOSED sign in the window. I peeked in, and the owner politely opened the door for us and welcomed us in. He offered us free samples of their award-winning Apple Pie shine and Forbidden Fire. FANTASTIC STUFF and SUPER-SMOOTH. He showed us around the facility with all their new renovations, as well as their distilling operations. The shop is complete with very old turn-of-the-century copper stills (out of commission), old family heirloom restored jalopies used to transport shine back in the day, and of course all of their state-of-the-art stills. GREAT STOP if you're in Wilkesboro. Highly recommended. And don't forget to...
