Edit: So its been a few years since I've been back here. Obviously due to covid for more of the past year and for the fact that watching online is more comfortable, less distracting from kids and usually less irritating to listen to the bleed over from the sound of the adjacent theatre screens. Stopped in tonight to watch the new Mortal Kombat film. First thing I noticed before the movie even got going was that the bright/action scenes with hard hits, shattering, glass breaking or loud crunches were pretty harsh from a audio tuning standpoint.
For the owners who run the place you need to have your setup tuned pretty badly. The front stage was so bright it spiked my ear drums several times and the surround was way to high both left and right compared to the front stage. The immersion was all over the place and the bass fill was pretty empty. I don't know if this is a lack of the audio system or just it having never be tuned but Tioga's theatre lays this down to the ground so with that said Unless you haven't upgraded in the past 15 years it needs work. I've studio sound recording, home and car and compete in SQ with really expensive gear that takes hours of tuning with a computers and calibration mics, your upper 5-12k range was blistering in some cases. Like the high end of a cymbal crash like the cracking shattering ice of Sub Zero in the movie that was like eaaaahhhhh.
Anyways, overall, experience was still what its always been, greasy floors, odd seating that is almost impossible to stay comfortable in because you slide out of it, but with the fortunate lack of people to block my view which was about the only plus tonight. For those that are from here you all will understand that. For those not from here, it's a typical small town movie theatre. I will likely be watching at home from now on...
Read moreI'm not sure if this is/was Main Street Cinema, but there is only movie theater company in town. This is a unique theater split between 2 separate buildings. It has an older, classic design. It doesn't look bad, but it's far from perfect. Just keep in mind that Williston in general has a rundown look and most places aren't in the best condition. Don't expect exceptional service or low costs here. The movie tickets are overpriced as any other place. The same goes with the concessions. Over priced soda, popcorn, candy, etc but again, that's expected. I went to a 2D and a 3D movie here. The 2D picture was fine. Nothing wrong with the sound or screen. The 3D was fine as well. They reuse their 3D glasses. Mine were fine but I noticed there were many in the return pile that were worn out. Expect to get glasses in rough condition. I can't say anything about the theater conditions. It's dimly lit, but they seem a little worn out. The seats seemed clean and intact. The floor was relatively clean. There were cool posters and some retro decorations in the lobby. The staff seemed cheerful. I had no rude people help me nor any problems with the staff. They were quick since it was very busy there. If you want to see a movie, this will work fine. I plan on seeing more movies here. It's not the most amazing thing in the world and it's not intended to be. It's an overpopulated small town theater designed for a small crowd. It's overpriced mainly because everything in Williston is. If you need a break from reality,...
Read moreThis theater is a dirty, filthy, grungy and dilapidated establishment that is infested with cockroaches. Unfortunately it is the only movie theater in the small town of Williston, ND.
Also, the staff and in particular one of the (so-called) "managers" at the place (he is a scrawny, balding, wannabie hipster is a rude, unprofessional individual who does not know one thing when it comes to help paying customers who have a complaint about rude theater audience goers who talk and/or text on their cell phones during a movie or having parents control their children who deem it necessary to constantly talk and kick peoples chairs while watching a movie. This theater and it's staff has received several bad reviews and valid customer complaints on how they have been treated in the past. Complaints about their rude behavior, their confrontational attitude and poor quality service both management-wise as well as at the concession counter too. It is unfortunate that this behavior continues and has never been properly addressed and taken care...it is also a sad state of affairs that a paying customer needs to travel to the city of Minot in order to see a new movie in a cleaner movie theater with a staff that is more professional (Funny thing too is...there has been a Help Wanted sign in the window of the theater (there are 2 of them in Williston, both owned and operated by the same owners)...and I now know the reason why it is so hard to find people to work there...it is because of...
