Barney Loves Books — Local services in Woodstown

I had been in Woodstown exploring when I came across this gem of a book store! Parking was easy to find on a lazy weekday afternoon, but even if it was a busier day, it is a great downtown area to explore on foot!

The outside of the store was colorful and inviting. There was a table of books outside with a sign declaring that those books were “$1 or free.” I searched through those books and then went in.

The first thing that hits you as you walk in is the friendliness of the place. The owner was chatting with one of the other customers as I entered the bright, cheery space. A variety of music floated through the air, and the comforting scent of collected books permeated the entire shop.

Despite being a bookstore, there was a variety of non-book items available, including cd’s, records, dvd’s, and puzzles.

The books were well organized and easy to browse through, unlike a few used bookstores I know of which just seem to have stacks of everything everywhere. The books here are sorted by genre, and the sections are clearly marked. Throughout the store there are full series of books tied together to be sold as a set, which is a lot easier than searching through shelves of books trying to put a series together.

In the back of the store there were two spaces set apart from the rest of the store. One of these was a children’s area with children’s books, and also toys. The other area was a comic book section with a wide variety of titles.

The owner is friendly and helpful. He would chat with each customer that approached him, and had a great awareness of what books he had in stock, and also of what other bookstores can be found around south Jersey. He used to work in radio, and has some of the awards he earned during his years in radio on display in the store.

This store is such a gem and the owner is such a friendly, kind man that made it even more of a pleasure to visit! My children and I visited the store for our first time today and we were welcomed, shown around the store and enjoyed looking at all of the selections of books! We purchased a few books to add to our collection and he was so kind to my children! They were invited to pick a prize from the treasure chest, were given a ballooon and were also given the summer bingo sheet to play along with and get a prize for reading books! We will definitely be returning and I look forward to our next visit! I so appreciate the personal touches the owner works so hard to achieve which makes shopping there...

I have driven past this book store many times, saying each time that I want to go inside and take a look. Well, me and the grandkids were out and I finally did. I have to tell you all that the owner is so welcoming and helpful to see if he has what you are looking for.He was so helpful, and found the books that we all wanted and he had a special box that the children can look and pick a little gift. My grandchildren talked to me yesterday from out of state and one of the things they mentioned was the book store. My heart could have melted. I will make it a routine visit for them every time they come. Thank you so much for BARNEY...
