TEC Recycling — Local services in Yorkville

Called ahead to make sure they could take an old trailer frame. I explained that it’s quite big (9’x20’).. the guy on the phone said they might have a hard time weighing it but it shouldn’t be a problem for them to take. I didn’t really care about getting any money so I said no problem I’ll still bring it in. I travelled 15 mins to show up and be treated horribly by the guy outside. He refused to help me and said it was too big.. I explained that I called ahead to make sure it wouldn’t be a problem but he said it doesn’t matter and to not even waste my time calling. He was super rude and said he wouldn’t help.. apparently the office and the outside do not work together! The staff is friendly but the prices are not very good. They prefer you off load all your items into one container so they give you the lowest price for iron mix (6 cents per pound). They could better themselves if they truly explained how the customer could get the top dollar for their materials. I called to ask about sorting and in a "friendly tone" he cut me off and said "C'mon down, we'll help you out." I think they were helping...

I used TEC Recycling for the first time last week. I was very happy with the detailed separation of metal categories. I feel it's a better system as it seems far more fair and has more accountability for the customer that brings in goods to recycle. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and the owner has a very good work ethic and business model.
