My mom was a patient here for 3 weeks. She had to be wean off the ventilator after being admitted to the ICU. At the hospital, we were told that our mom had to go to a Snf to be wean off the ventilator. (Family members who are the primary caregivers are not qualified to wean off the patient from the ventilator). We were given a list of SNF that were close to home and the ones who wwoulaccept her insurance. Like any normal family member, we carefully read the reviews on all of the skilled nursing fafacilitin the list. Every single one of the facilities had bad reviews. That planted fear and worry for us.
My mom is non nonverbal and has been bed bound since she had her stroke in 2023. Choosing the right SNF for her rehabilitation was difficult. We had a really bad experience from another SNF in 2023( a few months after her stroke). We had to make a last mlast-minuteion and chose Sunview since it's the 2nd facility close to home. The first one was where we had a really bad experience in 2023. 1st day of admission was the scariest since we had no idea what to expect. The 'central ' nurse station area was under renovation. The room where my my was assigned was across the area where they were doing the remodel. 2nd day, we met some of their directors. We were asked about moms medical history and on what our goals were for our mom. We told Nate (the rehab director) that we would like our mom to get help strengthening her core. He suggested sitting her up on the tilted chair. The recreation director was the next person to visit and talked to us about our moms interest and hobbies. We told him she likes to listen to music. He said he would work on getting a radio for our mom so she could listen to her love songs. 3rd day, it was a huge surprised to us to see our mom sitted on the tilted chair, and she was tolerating it. We were getting to know the names of her nurses, cnas, and her respiratory team. The 1st week went by fast. We met with the NP for my moms care plan on the respiratory side and also met Dr Willey (rehab doctor) for her Pt and Ot exercises. By the end of the first week, my mom was already tolerating 12hrs being off the vent, and they were able to flip her sleep hours back to normal. Mid of her 2nd week stay, we received a call from the discharge coordinator TJ informing us that my moms discharge date is coming up. Then a follow up call from social worker was received telling us that the Dr's order from the hospital was to just wean her off in the morning from the ventilator and was supposed to put her back on at night to help her rest. The call got us confused and worried. We called the hospital insurance case manager and asked why she was getting discharged when she was not completely wean off the vent. We told her that my mom is tolerating the care plan that sunview provided, and we want to give our mom all the support she needs to prove to us that she can wean off the vent. The Respi team just started a new order for our mom. The new order was to see if she tolerates 24 hours off the vent and o2 concentrator. The day before her discharge date, we met up with Tj to see if we were really leaving the next day. She advised us to talk to the hospital insurance case manager to see if they could extend my mom for another week. We made a few calls, and a few hours passed, and we were told our mom is extending for another week. 3RD Week came, and Sunview was able to completely wean off our mom from the vent and the O2 concentrator. Her trach was also changed to a "cuffless" one. Our mom is 74 years old,and her brain and body take its time to heal. I would like to sincerely thank the staff of Sunview. The Morning crew of the CENTRAL team did an exceptional job taking care of our mom and her needs. Her nurses : Maricruz and Cristina, her Cna's: Leanna, Brenna and Tracy(night) and the rock star Respi team Adiane, Justine, Cody headed by their director Rico. They were all extremely patient and were willing to answer every single question and were able to explain med...
Read moreToday on 5/24/2016 I am discharging from Sunview Health and Rehab. Thanks to this Rehabilitation center I am in better shape now than I was before my accident almost, I am definitely more motivated thanks to this location and staff. Several of the staff members kept for keeping me thinking positively, as well as pushing me to better myself in several ways. Some examples of ways they helped are pushing me to my limits, always being by my side when I needed it even if I did not want it.
Nurses who never left my side and kept a smile and me motivated helped me through the day, the main Nurse who was always there almost like a family member was Michael. I feel that this gentleman had some of the best qualities he definitely loves his job and seeing people succeed and I personally want to come back and check in with him and show my progress. This man has motivated me to better myself and most defiantly looked out for me when I needed it most. Thank you for being a some what Guardian Angel for me at times.
Nurse Denise as well I have to say was one of the best as well. Just like I said above about Michael she treated me amazingly. This lady was always having a smile on her face and willing to listen and to my issues and concerns and made some of the best suggestions I could received or have received in a a long time. I needed her more than she will possibly ever know.
Nurse Lisa now this one stood out to me and is last on my list because I could say so much an essay about how amazing she was and treated me. The biggest thing that touched my heart was her name. m]y mother who passed when I was 13 her name was Lisa as well and I have not met a Lisa since she passed besides my sister. This lady had a smile on my face anytime I was down in the turned my frown upside down.
As for the lead nurses Jamie and Jenny always had my smiling and were super polite. To be honest I will say it I am alive and walking thanks to everyone who had my back at this facility especially these girls.
The RT staff and me really bonded and I honestly made some amazing conversations with them. One who stood out and I bonded with was RIch we loved the same genre movies and similar stuff it made my stay amazing and want to stay having someone I an can connect with. He also bonded with me making me want to stay here and finish my therapy and get better. He inspired me to not only be a better person but he was just flat out amazing.
RT Bill I can not say much about this guy he kept me smiling and was concerned about me and was very aware about my problems. At some points it seemed me knew me better than myself. He was very easily approachable and amazing.
RT Cathy this lady was so caring and looked out for me even when she did not have to check in, Cathy did such things because she was concerned and honestly she reminded me of how many caring people there are out there because i had forgotten they exist.
The Cna's as well stood out and checked in on me the most and made sure I was able to recover so quickly and correctly. Jazmin stood out the most to me she would always somehow know when I needed to talk or vent and genuinely cared.
Ana my night time Cna was there for me on point with her job weither it be 2 am or right before she left she was amazing, Jenn the other night time CnA kept a smile on my face as well and always looked for my best interest.
The RNA Jordan was amazing at dinner time she would still conversant with me. This made it so much more comfortable and pushed me to try harder because I wanted to talk back to her.
For the Therapy two people stood out the Speech Tori therapist who pushed me and Greg. These two individuals pushed me to want to better myself when I was ready to give up. Now today I am seriously in better shape almost then I have been in years Greg and Tori are amazing
Finally thank you all for being so caring about my recovery. Thanks too the staff at Sunview. I am now thinking positively and mentally better than I have been in 14...
Read moreThis is long overdue but I realize how important these reviews are in making decisions for your loved ones. My dad was at Sunview Jan-Mar 2022. He almost died his first night there due to the neglect and better than-than-thou attitude of his respiratory therapist Melissa. He had insane anxiety about the ventilator and instead of explaining what she was doing and trying to ease his fears, she stomped out of the room, with his call light nowhere near him and his trach cuff inflated which means he had no voice. He was banging on the walls trying to get help as he drowned in his phlegm. But he was saved by his angel RT Sheree in the nick of time when the shift changed and because of that scare, that first night at sunview was also his last night on a ventilator. We went to the directors and they truly made an effort to make things right. Sean and Veronica were very helpful and caring, and seemed to be trying to turn the place around. The wound care nurse Tinika was phenomenal. Speech, Occupational, and Physical therapy were wonderful with Shae, Jansen, and Amber. RTs Sheree, Charles, Carlo, Roger, Lynah and others I’m not remembering were so great and attentive. Unfortunately with a SNF, in spite of the good things, the neglect is real. Most night shift nurses and CNAs had zero empathy and I constantly asked myself why they would choose that field because they had no business being around humans. There really needs to be nighttime charge nurses at EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE PLACES who actually cares about the standard of care provided. Daytime nurses Melissa and Joe were so awesome. I personally did not care for the way Jasmine treated my mom and me as family who had spent every allowed visiting hour with my dad for months to that point, but she made him feel safe and got him doing things that we didn’t expect so I am grateful for that. My mom and I ultimately ended up taking turns spending 24/7 with him, sleeping on a camping cot, for about a month because he’d call us terrified in the middle of night and we would hear his oximeter alarm going off for 15-20 minutes without any response. I’m sure he would have died in that place if we hadn’t done this. There were many days that he went hours and hours sitting in his own poop because it’s literally impossibly to provide humane care with a 24-1 ratio for CNAs. My dad got really sick while he was there and I expressed my concern for about a week without any decisive reaction before they told us to send him to hospice. We sent him to the ER instead and found out that he had RSV pneumonia. That should have been caught sooner and NP Eddie shouldn’t have told us to go to hospice. We got 10 more precious months with him… but even when he’d gotten better in the hospital, if we’d had to go back to to SNF, we would have gone to Sunview. The best advice I can give is to be present and advocate. If you think your loved one is sick, send them to the hospital rather than trusting the people at the nursing home will catch or even be concerned that they are sick. None of these places will actually provide the care that your loved one deserves, but it’s not because there aren’t great people in the environment just doing their best. We heard horror stories from places that had way better reviews than Sunview and are so thankful, in spite of some really awful situations, that this was the place we ended up. I can’t give 5 stars but I can say that if you are able to be around and advocate, this is one of the...
