It is somewhat distressing for me to write this review and not for any obvious reason. The more people that know about this gem, the greater the odds are that they will sell out of their amazing jams, jellies, syrups, preserves, nut butters, honey, bee pollen, mustard - suffice it to say they have a lot of stuff they produce here. I usually don't leave this place without at least 4 jars, and usually 1-2 are something I haven't purchased before. So they make most of their products, a very few things they don't, and that is usually because of some production issue (can't get enough of a supply of something to make a batch) I cannot say enough good stuff about their Dutch Apple Pie preserves, they are so good, go try some. The really cool thing about this place is that they let you try pretty much everything. (I can't ever recall anything I wanted to try that they didn't have.) I try to give appropriate/deserving ratings, and accordingly I don't give out a huge amount of 5 star ratings. However, were it possible I would give this location 6. Interesting thing is, the building you see from the road is very unassuming, you could drive right by it if you didn't know where it is. I only stopped there a few years back because I realized in all the time I have visited Oak Glen road, I've never stopped there but have seen the building. So, figured they must be doing something good to be there all that time, and I will say of all stores along Oak Glen road, this in my opinion is the one that you should not miss. So, parking and entrance are all accessible, not a huge lot, it is on the side of a hill, but you should find parking. Not a huge place, but they got a large variety of stuff. Staff are super friendly, have never experienced better service locally than when I come here. Prices are as you would expect, most definitely get what you pay for. Never used the bathroom, uncertain if there is one. I hope if you come here that you will enjoy your visit and what you come away with as much as I have. Like...
Β Β Β Read moreOn our way to the Wildlands Conservancy's Oak Glen Preserve (a lovely little preserve, review coming), my friends and I stopped at Mom's Country Orchards last Friday, mainly because it was the first little store we came to as we entered the Oak Glen area. The outside is rather unpretentious, just a little store all by itself before the really commercialized area of Oak Glen begins (coming in from Hwy 38 as you go toward Big Bear Lake from Mentone, right turn on Bryant Rd., left on Oak Glen Rd) We had the most WONDERFUL visit at this little store. There are scads of items for sale! But the most items are jams, jellies, honeys, ciders and butters, I think. Sides of the rooms are chuck full of jars. The three of us were offered a taste of every single thing in the store that we wanted to try...we probably tried about 30 items each. Kelly was our source of the numerous tastes and all the information you could want to know. The taste test of each item, most of which were made in the back room at the store (and you can watch), was accompanied by a very interesting discussion of how the item is made, where the fruits come from, how the beekeeper moves his hives to get the different honeys, where the groves and berry fields are for the marmalades, berry and other jams and jellies, etc. There are some very different and yummy jams and marmalades, along with all the ones you'd expect to find. There was a seedless blackberry jam that I can no longer find in regular stores. Snapped that up for my husband who loves it. The items are a bit pricey but the taste is so superior to the regular store-bought items, they are well worth it. We didn't make it further into Oak Glen because of the time we spent at Mom's and the Wildlands Botanic Garden in Oak Glen. I highly recommend both Mom's and the Botanic Garden (review to follow). It's a great little store with a wonderful, friendly,...
Β Β Β Read moreWhile visiting a unique coffee shop not too far from this location, decided to drop by. My wife had knowledge of local orchards nearby and landed here.
We were welcomed by owners or staff upon entering. Note: We were just curious and had not ever been. Really cozy and country style vibe inside. The staff immediately offered us there mini apples shown in photo. I didn't expect such hospitality and went about exploring their establishment.
We had seen their signs outside about home made preserves and jams. Once done viewing the historic relics and gifts we proceeded towards their back wall of preserves which they informed us that there were 200 + varieties.
One of the ladies offered us samples of our choice. My gosh there was so many preserves and the samples were amazing.
My wife got their Boysenberry Preserves, I got their Blueberry butter. To my surprise they had mustards there as well. Sample was given and I couldn't believe my taste buds exploding as I began to savor this unique flavor. Course Guinness Mustard is a must if you enjoy mustard. The lady suggested to put it on Brat Wursts. "Oh we have some at home" I replied and I cannot wait to have that.
So please if you are in the area and are just up the street, put this as a place to go in Google maps and head over there and check it out for yourself. You won't be disappointed with your visit!
Place was clean, organized, and most definitely service was friendly and welcoming. They were the nicest people and we will come back for more selections of their home made preserves!
10 stars β hands down! Well done 'Mom's Country...
