We were members here at this church for a few years. Loved the community, the love for God, and the worship. So many good hearted people here. They truly welcome everyone in with open arms. And while I donât want to talk bad about this church, I have to be completely honest as there were things I witnessed that did not sit right in my spirit.
It started with the number of staff members promoting their MLM businesses with churchgoers, namely women. If you know anything about MLM/pyramid schemes, you know how awful they are and how they have wrecked peoples lives financially. The whole âbusinessâ aspect of them is predatory at best. Not something I imagined would be promoted at a church, let alone by staff members.
The next thing that stuck out to me was the lack of discipleship. My husband went to the front one morning to seek spiritual guidance and one staff member went to him then realized it was him and said âoh youâre already a Christianâ and walked away. As if the only purpose is to save souls. What about helping the souls saved but needing more spiritual direction? Their answer: life groups.
We joined numerous life groups, hoping for spiritual direction/guidance. After a year of trying many we realized they were mainly just for socializing and doing something together as a group. We also both volunteered with the church and while we connected socially with others we never really felt like we were growing spiritually there. The sermons were more like inspirational and motivational speeches peppered with scripture. And most of them ended with the same message: serve through volunteering at the church.
So we decided to do our own deep dive into learning what we could about biblical living and growing spiritually as Christians. When we did we learned about mega churches and what they were. We started to put the pieces together and realized we were going somewhere set up for people new to the faith, with the major focus being to do whatever it takes to bring people in.
Then I learned about Catholicism and the origin of the church being ordained by Jesus himself as Peter the apostle was the first pope. I learned about missing books of the Bible, and why they werenât included in the Bibleâs most of us have today but are in the Catholic Bible. I learned about the beauty of the Eucharist and all the other wonderful ways we can grow spiritually and closer to God that I was never taught before. I learned about the whole of Christianity, sacrifice, and salvation. The missing pieces I was looking for but just couldnât put a face to.
We have not gone to Christ Chapel in a while as we have been attending Christ the King Catholic Church in pine mountain.
Would I recommend Christ Chapel for those new to living the Christian life? Yes. I think it is a good church to start with if you are a Protestant Christian. But if you want to grow spiritually and need discipleship, you may want to...
Read moreBeautiful building, lovely cafe, several opportunities to become more involved, excellent choir (although I could have done without the rock stadium feel of smoke machines and strobe lights). But none of what Iâve mentioned has a lick to do with witnessing anything that could potentially lead a lost soul to the Lord. The auditorium was PACKED. So many people, which what a blessing for this church. However I attended a Wednesday evening service which included Pastor Benny Tate to promote his new book Defying the Odds. Complimentary copy given to each person. What left me disgusted was that while I enjoyed the music and Pastor Tateâs book spiel and basic motivational speech, neither him nor the Senior Pastor (I assume) Billy, shared the truth of the Gospel, which is this simple: FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON THAT WHOSOEVER (this means ANYONEâalcoholic, murderer, thief, sexual predator, homosexual, etc) BELIEVETH IN HIM SHALL NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE âJohn 3:16. To assume every single warm body knows the great news of the Gospel is so disheartening and such a missed opportunity. How many of these people within the church are truly saved and going to heaven when they die? I know that if there was anyone present who hadnât ever heard of Jesus or what He did for us sinners to be saved from sin (which was willingly die a horrendous death on the cross) to pay for all of our sins (past, present, and future) and rose from the dead 3 days later, then sadly they left out of there still lost with no idea what salvation is/means and the amazing grace shown by God for us to have an opportunity to be in His presence FOR ETERNITY. At the conclusion of the service I approached Pastor Billy and made mention of my observation of the omission of what God has called all believers to do (share the good news to all you can so they, too, can go to heaven) and how disappointing it was and that not being obedient as a Pastor to share the Gospel was, his very lame response was âSorry to have disappointed you. But I believe Jesus was here in this buildingâ. He totally missed the mark. Itâs not me he should have been concerned about disappointing. He should be most concerned with the fact that a huge missed opportunity to lead someone to accept Christ and make that commitment to believe/trust/rely on Jesus is what should have been his number one objective. Too many churches have omitted giving the gospel at every opportunity. This is a lost world. More so than not. So, how about focusing on soul winning and not putting so much emphasis on entertainment. I will not...
Read moreMy family loves Christ Chapel. We started going on Wed nights & occasionally on Sundays, bc our church Rock Springs was a bit further. Which Rock Springs is absolutely AMAZING. I still watch it online. We live in Pike, so Christ Chapel is closer & more convenient. We now go every Wed & Sunday. My girls love it. Their youth group & kids church are AMAZING. Mrs Ashley is the BEST! My 10 year old loves her! There are many opportunities to serve. They have many different events to bring the community & its surrounding areas together. Its mission is to WIN, BUILD, & SEND. There has been several Christ Chapel churches to open in the surrounding areas, with the newest being in Barnesville to launch soon. Every 6 weeks there is new small groups to launch. Small groups are on different days, times, purposes, & for different people. Couples, teens, kids, all women, & all men. There is something for everyone. I attend one on Wed at 6:30 for all women, have been attending it for several years. Christ Chapel is a great church with great people, who love Jesus. You will hear the biblical truth here. The church is here love & serve others. To help one grow in their faith & knowledge, but it is not the churches sole responsibility for one to grow. That is on you. You have to take the time to have a true relationship with God. Read your word & pray. You draw near to him, he will draw...
