My family and I were up on High1 Ski Resort
on the 10th December 2023 - 3 days after opening of the season. We booked on Trazy so we just wanted to share our experience because I think there’s a lot to say…
1. We took the train as we couldn’t book the shuttle bus on Trazy. Not many take the train.
2. We decided to head to Gohan station. The station to take from in Seoul is Cheongnyangni station. We took the 0734h train.
3. Arriving in Gohan, we had to find our way to the check-in centre - here is the name found in Naver Maps - Kangwon Land Mountain Condo Check-In Centre (Geupsok)
[Naver Map]
https://naver.me/5ipJRgVu
4. You will need to get a taxi from Gohan station and there’s a taxi stop down the steps at the main road about 15m to the left of the 7-11 at the bottom of the stairs. You can also get the shuttle bus but it only leaves once every hour so it could be a long wait.
5. Don’t try to walk to the check-in as it’s far and mostly uphill with little pavement to walk on
6. Once you get to the check-in centre you will get a voucher for the ski equipment rental and for the lift passes. You cannot get your keys yet, not until 1500h in the afternoon! So you would need to come back here. They were kind enough to store our bags (me, wife and 2 kids) until we came back to check in.
7. With the vouchers in hand, walk uphill to the Ski House where you would find the ticket counter (left of the porte couchere) to redeem the vouchers. You’ll get a ski pass with an arm band and a receipt to show to the equipment rental inside.
8. Now get inside the Ski House to rent your equipment.
9. Rent a locker first, rent the tall big ones at 10000KRW for 24h to store your skis for your trip. The ski equipment is not bad, not that old, but not new either. Just well maintained.
10. If you need to rent ski clothes, it’s upstairs behind the shop that sells gloves and socks.
11. You cannot rent goggles as there’s none to rent, but helmets are free. Pick one up form the equipment bin.
12. Now you’re all set to ski!
13. Once you’re done and need a rest, it’s time to head back downhill to check-in. The check-in station is open 24h.
14. We got Block F Mountain Villa and it’s a bit of a walk uphill again after you get your key pin (6-digit pin will open your unit door).
15. The unit was big, and very warm due to the under floor heating. Snug and comfy.
16. There is one queen sized bed in the master bedroom and 3 sets of Korean thin mattress/futons in the other room compete with duvet, so our unit could fit 5 people easily.
17. THERE ARE NO BATH TOWELS provided, only small face towels. No shampoos either only a small bar of hotel soap. We were annoyed this was not listed anywhere by Trazy, but I’m letting you know now so you all know better.
Once you’re in the room, it’s now time to enjoy the ski and snow with relish. This place is pretty much a ski-on, ski-off resort, very close to the start of the gondolas up at the Ski House. Very well organised. There’s a convenience store at the bottom of Block F for sundries but meals might be an issue - not much choice at all.
This isn’t a full service hotel but a holiday apartment setup with convenience. It’s a place designed for someone with a car. It would be so much more convenient to have one. With a car at least meals could be taken down the valley In the village.
A short note on the slopes - it’s a great place for beginners. Easy but long slopes to get those turns in. Some parts are narrow though, so be careful. Early season snow was wet and not so nice but that’s no one’s fault but Mother Nature. If you find yourself here when all the slopes are open and there’s decent snow cover - it’s really not bad, not bad at all.

Beautiful day. Nice resort. Nice runs.
65000 won for a half day. 30000 won gear hire. Going up for full days pass.
The ski pass and rentals seemed decent but the lessons where way over the top.
Ticketing is outside. Poorly identified from the road. I had to walk up to look. Rentals inside and the lifts are up stairs.
Rentals need a better range of gear and please some training. Skis are old. Not waxed or cared for at all. The skis you rented me were about 5 or 6 years old. The base was turning white from drying out. Not waxed or edge tuned and that is crazy on an artificial field. Largest ski is a 160. Are you serious. Snow boards looked the same. So if you are over 5'6 and/or 60kg rent before you come. And many people were asking for bigger. About half.
And no premium rental. Good way to let the customers down and not make money
But. Quite discriminating. I was treated very very differently from the locals. Repeatedly having to walk back to my car to get different id's. passport taken off me (which is in contrast to korean law. And common sense) with no guarantee or assurance of how it would be handled.
Patrol just whistle at people. I have seen this on other fields. But there is some interaction between patrol and the public. I watched people crashing right in front of patrol and they didn't come out. Just kept on whistling. Wierd
Repeatedly pushed aside by staff. Id checked a bunch.
Staff always say that it's management policy.
Many of the staff were very good. And friendly
I have skied on way worse fields on way worse days. And had much better times.
I work on ski fields professionally. I will never ski here again even on free passes

Less English speaking staffs, and self service machine is only local language. Spacious areas, plenty of ski rides, large slope is good for a beginner to practice. Easy access with private car. But still reachable by bus then walking a lot to each building. If no car then stay at Valley is the closest building to bus stop and ski house. Stayed at Mountain Condo needs to walk up to the ski house via bridge and outdoor passing through the kid/ fun park. The quality of rental gear is average to low ie. boots is old to somewhat new, helmet is free of charge, not seen the rental clothes. The snowboarding is not adjustable compare to Japanese ski resort. The snow quality is average from early Dec. Multiple food choices mostly local food and Western (junk food) quick grab pizza, burgers, fried chicken. Convenience store is available from 8am - 11pm.
Definitely agreed to the other comment that high traffic of peak hour where beginners and expert shared slope looks so dangerous.
Overall I would still give Japan ski resort with the awesome best choice for snowboarding in term of safety, quality of rental gears and “snow powder” helps safe a beginner with super FUN 🤩. Here is designed for a local’s needed with personal gears and safety surely require more improvement.

There are basically 2 bases: the Valley and the Mountain. From there, many slopes from Beginner to expert. Both bases have food outlet (though choices are limited), information desk and ski school. Mountain Base has archery as well as Sunrise and Sunset tour. If you take the Korea Tour foreigner bus, it will drop you off at Mountain Base. There are free shuttle. Buses going to all areas.
If you are beginner, I recommend to have your base at the Valley and you can take the Gondola to Valley condo or take Zeus chairlift up. For intermediate, I recommend mountain base, you can take the Condola or Athena chairlift. For the pros, get to the Valley hub.
If you are non Korean citizen, you should first visit the information desk and get a resort card. The card will give you 50% discount on ski Pass!!
For ski school, they only do private lesson and cost is around 240k Won.
Overall, the ski field is great, slopes are long but not boring.
Oh XLOh XL
If you are not local and u wanna try ski? Please be warned that the rental price of the ski set equipments are quite expensive. You have to rent their ski outfit, ski equipment set. That would cost u about 80-100$ USD. The area for you to ski is relatively small because you are a beginner right? The slopes and all are for the experts, which are not recommended because they might crash into you at those speed. It requires hell lot of energy to ski as well, its not as simple as it seems. Also, if you are not someone whom exercise regularly, the next day after you ski you will feel a very bad muscle ache on your shoulder and your arms.(that’s me) cuz The equipment sets are really kinda heavy. overall it’s a different experience but No, I will never go again. Hahaha

Warm water in Winter. Most pools are indoor with warm air so you will not feel the cold.
The Park requires swim wear. After payment of admission, your receipt will have a number. The number will be your lockers number. Your key will be with the shoe locker which can open the main locker and also act as your debit card. Once you have the key, then you will need to head to the coin adjustment counter to add credit. Note they do not accept foreign credit cards. Admission fee includes shower towel and shampoo and body gel. Most pools except spas require life jacket to enter both adult and children. Life jacket, beach chairs, massage chairs require "coins" so unless you only go there for spa, recommend to add coin first.
There is a restaurant inside and outside food is not allowed.
No time limit for entrance.
There are free parking and also free High 1 shuttle bus from Station, Casino and Mountain Condo. Taxi is very rare.
If you are non Korean, bring your passport for discount on entrance fee.

Very interesting historical establishment. It shows years of history of the coal mining in Taebaek to include the evolution of the tooling used in coal mining industry. There are numerous rocks of different values on display on one of the floors. There is an admission cost of 2000 won which can be paid for at the entrance.

Built up in the heart of Korean coal mining region, this museum tells you a story of such hard labor. Unfortunately due to Corona situation I couldn't get into the museum itself, but the area around is flooded with rusty mining machinery and realistic sculptures. Definitely must visit place!
