Chicago’s Amazing Vietnamese Pho & Seafood Grill
A dreary Wednesday turned around with an amazing lunch — Vietnamese pho and seafood grill! I suspect the restaurant might be Chinese‑run (just a hunch — they were playing Chinese karaoke‑style songs on TV), but the food itself was seriously impressive. What We Ate 🤤 🍜 Phở Tàu Điện (Special Beef Noodle Soup) First off — huge portion, easily shareable for two. Loaded with tripe, beef slices, brisket, and meatballs. The beef soaks up the broth beautifully, brisket is springy, and the broth is a perfect sweet‑savory‑umami blend. Highly recommended. 🫔 Spring Rolls The dipping sauce is incredible — rich, nutty peanut sauce, sweet‑salty and just right. 🐖 Pork Skewers So unique — not chunks, but whole strips of pork belly coiled around the skewer. Glazed with a sweet‑savory sauce. Fatty bits are rich and aromatic — a must for pork lovers. 🐚 Stir‑Fried Clams with Scallion & Oil Plump, tender clams with no fishiness — charred edges and fragrant garlic‑scallion seasoning. 🦪 Oysters with Scallion Oil Smaller oysters — a few were slightly briny. Served with a spicy, savory yellow dipping sauce that cuts the ocean taste (but it’s quite spicy!). 🍹 Kumquat Green Tea & Sugarcane Juice Huge glass of kumquat green tea — tangy and refreshing. Friends liked the sugarcane juice too (a bit sweet). Key Details 📍 🍴 Restaurant: Ocean Grill & Bar 📍 Address: 1826 S Canal St, Chicago, IL 60616 💰 Price: $35‑45 per person. Great value — we ordered five dishes and were stuffed. Top picks: pork skewers and the pho. Most customers were happily slurping giant pho bowls too — highly recommended!
