Chicago｜An Affogato to Remember — Hexe Coffee

I recently wrote about Pretty Cool Ice Cream’s collab with Levain Bakery — but they also teamed up with Hexe Coffee for a summer special! I stopped by for breakfast and couldn’t resist trying their limited-edition affogato. 🍨 Summer Affogato – That classic hot-and-cold magic ✨ — but with a fun urgency, because if you wait too long, the ice cream completely melts into the espresso. That’s the beauty of an affogato! The sweetness of the ice cream balances the espresso’s slight bitterness — a perfect summer alternative to iced Americano. ☕️ Hot Latte – Hexe offers a fascinating selection of beans, including a light roast from Tanzania that I once tried on my travels. Definitely planning to return and work my way through their roster. 🥪 Breakfast Sandwiches – One features Umamicue BBQ pork belly, the other classic bacon. Honestly? As much as I love Umamicue’s ribs, pork belly felt too heavy for breakfast. Bacon was the winner. You can also choose between biscuit or bagel — I vote biscuit + bacon + fluffy egg + melty cheese. So satisfying but not overly rich. ☠️ Skull Cake – Looks hardcore, but it’s a chocolate skull-shaped cake coated in sugar icing. A bit sweet on its own — better with coffee. Could do without the icing though! 🥐 Pastries & Vibe – Freshly baked pastries daily (mostly American-style). Bonus: Hexe is also a brewery 🍺, so you can grab beer or cocktails here.
