Had to edit my review after my experience today at Hexe Coffee. I've been patronizing this establishment since the day it opened. I've met and talked with the owner, and he's a really good guy. Coffee is solid, and the baked goods and food are tasty. Unfortunately, today I was disrespected by one of their workers(tall white brunette), who seems to have a problem with me every time she takes my order. Everyone else besides her has always been professional and friendly. I ordered my cold brew like I do almost every day, and when I returned for a refill, she looked at me and asked if I bought it today. At first, I thought she was joking around, but when she looked at me with a smug look on her face, I realized she was actually being serious and basically trying to accuse me of bringing in an old cup for a $5 cold brew. Mind you, I buy treats and coffee at this establishment almost every day before work. I purchase coffee for my girlfriend and coworkers, and they also do the same for me at times. I've told multiple coworkers, family, and friends how good their coffee and treats are, which in turn brings them in more business. To be disrespected and insulted by one of their employees who seems to have an issue with me for no reason at all(not sure if it's coming from a place of being prejudiced or simple ignorance) after years of spending my hard earned money their, to me is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. Unfortunately, after this experience, I'll be getting my coffee and...
Read moreI pass by this place all the time, and it has really good reviews on here. So I was very excited to try it. I got a macchiato and a peanut butter cookie. Sadly, both were absolutely horrible. Coffee was insanely bitter and lukewarm???Cookie would’ve been tolerable if it was preheated, but it was not, so it had a texture comparable to dry meat.
Definitely overpriced for its value. I’m not shocked at the prices, as everything is priced similarly now. I am just mad I spent $10 on literal garbage. I was not even able to enjoy my macchiato; I downed it like a shot because it was so intolerable. I ended up throwing away more than half the beef jerky cookie. At this price point I’d expect a tad bit more. I could’ve had a more satisfying experience at many comparable cafes around the city, some being even less pricey.
I would give zero stars for the food and drink alone. I cannot rate the service because frankly I was not paying attention. But, I give two stars because the vibes were cute. It’s a nice place to study. I also liked the complimentary wifi and water. But, every single Starbucks also has...
Read moreI’m used to cafes back from home in NYC, so I wanted to find a place in Chicago to chill while I was staying here—Hexe is exactly what I was looking for.
The dirty chai latte I got was great—not at all cloyingly sweet like some places do, just a great blend of bitter and spice with a hint of sweetness. I also got myself the bacon cheddar chive biscuit—a bit salty on its own with the blend of such strong flavors all together, but with a drink on the side it’s a great snack.
Finished my visit off with a rosey negroni cocktail. Wow, that really blew me away. The strong herbal flavor really drives the rosiness home. Definitely not recommended if herbal/floral things aren’t your taste, but otherwise go for it.
Also please don’t make the same mistake I did and DONT leave a dish at the pickup counter where it explicitly says “no dishes please”. I noticed the sign but I didn’t process the fact I left it there until I was already all the way down the street 🤦🏻♀️ I’m so so sorry to the workers there. When I visit Chicago again I’ll make sure to put it in...
