Chicago|Mexican Michelin One-Star 🌟 Taco Feast 🌮

It's Taco Tuesday!!!!! I always thought Mexican food might be harder to elevate to "fine dining" level, so props to this spot for earning a ⭐ Michelin star. We started with pre-dinner bites at the entrance: 🇳🇿 New Zealand oysters, spicy lobster chips, tortilla soup, and sweet-crispy mini empanadas. A relaxed yet refined start—chill but not cheap. ❶ EL ZARANDEADO 🦀🐟 Tender fish and crab, though the sauce was a bit salty and overpowering. Loved the blue corn tortilla—chewy, fragrant, with real corn depth. ❷ EL GUISADO 🧅🍄‍🟫🌵 Didn’t expect braised pork skin in Mexican cuisine! Glossy, collagen-rich, melt-in-your-mouth tender. Pickled chanterelles added tangy spice to cut through the richness. Black truffle wasn’t just for show—it echoed the mushrooms beautifully. The cactus corn tortilla was aromatic, though the cactus flavor itself was subtle. 🥔 Red wine onion cheese mashed potatoes – exactly as described. Then came the mains: ❸ AL VAPOR 🦆🎋 Duck taco steamed in banana leaf—opened to a wave of smoky, savory aroma. Shredded duck was fall-apart tender, tucked into chili-oil-soaked tortillas—soft, juicy, fragrant. Paired with foie gras—the fatty richness exploded in the mouth, an almost transcendental moment. Finished with tangy thumb watermelon to balance the richness—clean, refreshing, and utterly memorable. ❹ EL ASADO, EL CAMPECHANO 🥩💐 Wagyu beef with a gorgeous sear—rich, tender, with a satisfying chew. Served with bone marrow… but honestly, the wagyu was already so fatty, the marrow felt excessive. One bite and I was overwhelmed. ❺ LA GRINGA 🍖🍍 Traditionally pork, but here made with jackfruit (common in vegan recipes). Sweet-spicy sauce like sweet-and-sour pork, with salty cheese—a savory-sweet loop! But the cheese slice was too thick, turning into a chewy, milky lump. ❻ EL DORADO 🍫🍨 A crispy waffle “taco” filled with sweet chocolate semifreddo. Crack it open, mix the shards into the ice cream—rich, fragrant, balanced with tart cherries. Like a Black Forest taco—so good! We also received a snack bag to-go: caramel coconut cookies, chocolate, and a pineapple bun (which was delicious!). Service was excellent, vibe was relaxed. Will definitely return when the menu changes! #CityFoodAwards #ChicagoEats #MexicanFineDining #CrabDelights #MichelinDining 🌮✨
