Chicago | This Coconut Milk Fish Stew for Just Over $10 Per Person
Dominican food is unexpectedly delicious and comforting! Especially this Coconut Milk Fish Stew — I’m in love. The stewed lamb and chicken are also incredibly tender and flavorful. Heard great things about their oxtail too, but it sold out today. Almost all customers were speaking Spanish — being the only Asian faces, we got some curious looks 😅 A true hidden gem — definitely go for it: ⭐️ Every dish is flavorful and well-seasoned (only the tripe soup was a bit gamey). ⭐️ Super friendly staff — they spent time answering our questions and even gave us small samples of drinks to try. ⭐️ Clean restaurant despite the affordable prices. ⭐️ Seriously cheap — four mains for around $20 per person after tax and tip. 🇩🇴 What is Dominican cuisine? Dominican Republic is a Caribbean island nation with strong Latin vibes. The food features seafood, grilled meats, and tropical fruits, often seasoned with lime and tomato — bright, tropical flavors. Influenced by Spanish and African traditions, it’s stew-heavy with mild spices — perfect for Asian palates! 👉🏼 Pescado con Coco (Coconut Milk Fish Stew) Must-order! Tender fish in rich coconut sauce — sweet coconut balances the savory fish perfectly. Huge portion for only $16! 👉🏼 Goat Stew Must-order! Lamb so tender it falls apart, aromatic without gaminess. Served with giant cassava chunks. 👉🏼 Morir Sanando A national Dominican drink — fresh orange juice mixed with milk and sugar. Fruity and creamy (we asked for less sugar, so it was sweet but not cloying). 👉🏼 Mondongo (Tripe Soup) Rich and aromatic with spices and lime — tripe is soft yet chewy, served with rice. Only downside: slight tripe odor here. 👉🏼 Chicken Stew Very tender chicken soaked in savory spices — solid comfort food. ⭐️ Verdict: Just go — too many positives to list again. ⭐️ Ambiance: Cozy space with about ten tables, simple decor, and a large mural depicting Dominican culture. ⭐️ Service: Very kind — maybe because we were the only non-Latino table, they gave us extra attention. 📍 Tropical Taste Restaurant #100RestaurantsChallenge #ChicagoDining #ChicagoEats #ChicagoLife #LifeInUSA #StudyInUSA
