Chicago Summer|Tavern on Rush Flashback 🍰🫐
Five summers ago, Chicago’s streets felt even warmer than the sun. It was the start of the pandemic, but we still had time — to breathe freely, to meet freely. I remember it was July 4th, Independence Day, and I was strolling through Gold Coast with a friend when we settled into Tavern on Rush. Opened in 1998, it was once a beloved local and tourist favorite — a classic American steakhouse known for its lively atmosphere.😍😘 Passing by a few days ago on my way to La Colombe, it hit me like a forgotten memory flashing back — like a film still buried deep in my mind, perfectly preserved. That day, we didn’t have a full meal — too hot to eat much. Instead, we shared a huge blueberry cheesecake on a bright sunny afternoon — tangy, sweet, and impossibly smooth.👍😁 Standing at the crosswalk, I scrolled frantically through my phone gallery, digging up memories tucked away in forgotten corners. The street corner, the sign, the sunlight, the cute napkins, the younger me — it all rushed back. But something felt… off. Wasn’t it on the left side of the street before? And weren’t there umbrellas outside? Now they’re at another restaurant… But I’ve always been a little mixed up with memories, so I didn’t dwell on it.❤️😊 Back home, I looked it up — and turns out my memory wasn’t totally wrong. The original location on Rush Street closed in 2022 after a lease renewal fell through, leaving many longtime fans heartbroken. But on September 30, 2024, Tavern on Rush reopened — across the street, inside the Thompson Chicago hotel. 📍 1015 N Rush Street, Chicago, IL So it really did move! The old spot is now occupied by a new restaurant called Bellevue — looks nice too. Maybe I’ll try it someday when I have time and money. Yes, I have no sentiment — only taste buds 😂. Tavern on Rush’s menu got a slight upgrade, and their breakfast actually looks amazing. Okay, maybe I do have some sentiment — I’ll go back on a sunny day and give it a fresh try. Finally, I admit: worse than being lovesick is being memory-sick, stuck surviving on happy little fragments of the past. #ChicagoEats #FlashbackFeels #StudyAbroadLife #BlueberryCheesecake #LifeInTheUS
