Chicago Yakitori Omakase — CATSU 🍢✨

Recently stumbled upon a newly opened yakitori omakase spot. The chef is reportedly self-taught—so it could either be amazing or a total miss. Had to give it a try! 🧐🔥 🍢 Chicken Liver Mousse with Citrus Sauce – Silky smooth and rich. The chef also served a cup of chicken broth to pair (though I didn’t snap a pic). 🍢 Grilled Chicken Tenderloin – Seasoned only with salt, surprisingly delicious! 🍢 Chicken Thigh (Skin-On) with Scallion – Crispy skin makes everything better. 🍢 Skinless Chicken Thigh with Citrus-Sansho Pepper – Tender and fragrant. 🍢 Grilled Mustard Greens – One of the few vegetable courses, a bit on the salty side. 🍢 Grilled Chicken Wing (Bone-In) – Nice charred aroma. 🍢 Grilled Chicken Heart – Super tender and juicy, not tough at all—rare find! 🍢 King Trumpet Mushroom – Topped with crumbled egg yolk. 🍢 Chicken Oyster (My Favorite!) – Two small, tender pieces connecting the thigh and back. So flavorful! 🍢 Sichuan-Style Popcorn Chicken – Crispy, slightly spicy, and addictive. 🍢 Chicken Esophagus & Cartilage – Both crunchy and chewy (not for everyone, but I loved it!). 🍢 Chicken Meatball – Tender and well-seasoned, better than most in Chicago! 🍢 Dessert Custard – Texture could be smoother (maybe desserts aren’t the chef’s forte), but the lavender-infused tare with caviar was sweet, salty, and intriguing. 📍 Currently, CATSU runs as a weekend pop-up inside Flour Power (mentioned in a past review). It’s BYOB—bring sake for a Japanese vibe or Tsingtao for a Chinese BBQ feel 🍶🍻. ⚠️ Heads up: The ventilation isn’t great—it gets smoky inside. Maybe not the best spot for a first date 😅. As a multi-course omakase, the portions are generous and the price is fair. Definitely worth recommending!
