Chicago Yakitori Spot Nomonomo Reopens! 🍢

Nomonomo, the sister restaurant of Ramen Wasabi, used to be one of my favorite yakitori spots in Chicago. Sadly, it paused operations during the pandemic due to staffing shortages. A few weeks ago, I saw on IG that they’ve reopened, so I gathered friends and rushed over! 🍢 Appetizer: Soy-Glazed Sautéed Mushrooms – Three types of mushrooms, fragrant but a bit salty. 🍢 Garlic Soy & Yuzu Kosho Fried Chicken – Lightly spicy but mostly sweet, with a nice crispy coating. 🍢 Teriyaki Squid with Ginger Mayo – Tender squid, subtle ginger flavor. 🍢 Beef Soba Noodles – Tasty broth, but noodles were on the soft side. (You can also choose udon or ramen.) 🍢 Uni Udon – Creamy and rich with fresh uni and salmon roe that bursts in your mouth. 🍜✨ 🍢 Daily Special: Hanger Steak with Pesto – Delicious, but when we arrived at 5:30 PM with only three other tables, they told us only one skewer was left… hmm. 🍢 Sausage Skewer – Just okay, not particularly juicy. Optional. 🍢 Top: Beef Short Rib | Bottom: Chicken Meatball with Plum Sauce & Shiso – The beef was bland; chicken meatball was better but the plum sauce didn’t stand out. 🍢 Chicken Thigh with Sweet Onion – Classic combo, perfectly tender—highly recommended! 🍢 Chicken Heart & Liver – Usually I prefer liver, but here the heart won—cooked just right, tender with a nice texture. Also tried the beef tongue (no photo)—too fatty and served with pesto, not recommended. Overall, it’s a solid yakitori option in Chicago and worth a visit! 📍 Nomonomo 2115 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647 #SummerFoodieCat 🐱 #ChicagoLife #ExploreChicago #YakitoriSpot #ChicagoEats
