Exhibition in Milan | The Beautiful and Self-Aware Museum 🎨
Gallerie d’Italia Milano Located in the heart of the city at Piazza Scala, this museum was formerly the Italian Commercial Bank, built between 1906 and 1911. The architectural structure is simple in its Renaissance style, yet the decorations are incredibly luxurious and exquisite, with each exhibition hall featuring a distinct style and intricate reliefs even on the doors and windows. 🏛️✨ The museum is well aware of its beauty; in addition to showcasing artistic works, it has dedicated a hall named “Quando lo spazio è arte” (“When Space is Art”) to introduce its own history in detail. There is also a documentary about the museum itself. 🎥 The current exhibition features the art collections of bankers, with a total of 11 exhibition halls, each corresponding to a banker’s collection. This includes famous families like the Italian Medici and the American Morgans. 💼💰 As stated in the introduction: “For many of them, art collections became an extremely versatile tool to represent their economic success and showcase their aesthetic beliefs, but also, starting from the Age of Enlightenment, to contribute to the cultural and civil growth of the nation by transforming their collections into publicly accessible collections and foundations, or by donating them to public museums.” 🌍📚 ✨ The collection is incredibly rich, spanning a wide range of periods from 19th-century art to contemporary art. You can find works from Symbolism, Neo-Impressionism, Futurism, and more. 🖌️🖼️ ✨ The museum's treasures include sculptures by Canova and Umberto Boccioli, as well as Arnaldo Pomodoro’s sculpture “Disco in forma di rosa del deserto,” which is unfortunately encased in glass and off-limits for touch—just a little disappointing! 😅🔒 #MilanMuseum #Museum #MuseumRecommendation #Italy #Milan
