Ketchikan: The Gateway to Southeast Alaska
It's Alaska travel season again! When speaking of the southeastern gateway to Alaska, we're referring to the "Rain Capital," "Salmon Capital," and "Totem Pole Capital" - Ketchikan. While there are direct flights from Seattle, very few Chinese or overseas Chinese visitors fly directly to Ketchikan for tourism. Most arrive via cruise ships. So what's there to do in Ketchikan? ๐ Lumberjack Show - Right by the pier, a great option if you have cruise shore excursion credits. ๐ Creek Street - The historic red-light district where you can see salmon runs in July/August. ๐ Totem Parks - One northeast of the pier (accessible by bus or walking), another west (bus required). Free totem poles can be seen near Creek Street. ๐ Salmon Hatchery - Located near the northeast totem park. ๐ Misty Fjords National Monument - Stunning wilderness accessible by seaplane or boat tour. ๐ Bering Sea Crab Fishermen's Tour - Learn about Alaskan king crab fishing! ๐ Black Bear Viewing - Southeast Alaska has abundant black bears. Join a bear-watching tour during salmon runs for possible fishing sightings. ๐ Snorkeling - Don a wetsuit to explore Southeast Alaska's marine ecosystem in sub-60ยฐF waters! #Alaska #AlaskaTravel #MistyFjords #Snorkeling #TotemPoles #Ketchikan #CruiseTravel #Rainforest #Salmon #USA #USTravel
