Milan's Arco della Pace Story 🕍🏛️
🌟 The Arco della Pace is a neoclassical triumphal arch in Milan. It's a very complete three-arched triumphal arch with standard exterior decorations, a symbol on Milan's main roads, quite majestic, built during the 19th century when Napoleon ruled. It was once part of the Roman wall. Later, the city wall was transformed into part of the Sforza Castle, and the Arco della Pace stood alone. 🌟 In 1807, Napoleon built this triumphal arch to celebrate his victories in the European wars. The gate was not yet completed when Napoleon was defeated at Waterloo. In 1826, the ruler of Milan, Francesco, renamed the triumphal arch to the Arco della Pace. Above the gate stands a bronze statue of the goddess of peace holding an olive branch, standing on a chariot drawn by six horses. The dark green bronze and white marble complement each other, creating a unique charm. The Arco della Pace was designed by Louis Canina and dedicated to Napoleon in 1807. The construction of the triumphal arch did not stop with Napoleon's defeat; it continued as the people of Milan celebrated their liberation from his rule. 🌟 The construction was completed in 1838 and was finally named "Arco della Pace." In 1859, it was dedicated to Emperor Aostoria as a congratulations on Italy's independence, and the inscription was changed to words related to independence. Fun Fact: The surface of the building is carved with some representative events. On top is the goddess of peace standing on a chariot drawn by six horses. It is said that the horse heads were originally facing this avenue, directly towards Paris. After Napoleon's defeat, the Italians turned them around, so now it's the rear ends facing Paris. #HistoricalArchitecture #TravelTheWorld #CulturalAttractionSharing #EuropeanLife #MilanLife #ArcofPeace #MilanArcofPeace #OutdoorPotato
