📔 Milan Food Exploration Diary 🍽️

I've been in Milan for almost a year and haven't tried traditional Milanese cuisine yet. Today, I finally checked out a traditional Milanese restaurant that was highly recommended on someone's list! Before entering, I saw a wall full of red shrimp recommendations and TripAdvisor logos! ‼️ Almost all the customers in the restaurant were locals. ▫️ Ossobuco Milanese saffron risotto 💶28 Milanese ossobuco with saffron risotto is one of the most classic Milanese dishes. The veal shank is braised in red wine and combined with risotto made with saffron, a speciality of the Milan area. The shank is tender but not mushy, with a rich beef flavor, and the rice is perfectly cooked, not underdone. It felt like it had a generous amount of Emmental cheese. I personally thought it lacked salt, so I added some from the salt shaker provided. 🧂 ▫️ Cotoletta alla milanese 💶25 Milanese fried pork cutlet is also one of the most classic Milanese dishes. The pork cutlet looks dry, but it's actually cooked just right! The outer crust is crispy, and the pork is tender and juicy. Squeezing lemon on it helps to cut the greasiness, making it a delightful dish! ▫️ Strozzapretti with saffron asparagus speck 💶12 Saffron pasta with very tender asparagus and Italian speck, which is similar to Chinese cured meat. The sauce is special, similar to the risotto but with an additional unique flavor of asparagus. My friend loved this sauce and finished it off with the pre-meal bread. It's worth mentioning that their menu is quite special, as it suggests wines 🍷 to pair with each dish. A friendly, plump grandfatherly waiter provided excellent service! The portions are generous, and the value is high. Three girls ate very full for an average of 25 Euros each.
