The Bristol is a New American spot in Bucktown β Iβve known the ownerβs wife for a while but had only tried their brunch. Their summer tasting menu looked so enticing, my husband and I finally booked a dinner. πΌ Fried zucchini blossoms with pickled cucumbers and a gooey cheese-stuffed roll β crispy, tangy, and creamy. π Tomato salad with basil and mint β bright, acidic, and refreshing. π Spanish melon gazpacho packed with crab and cucumber β cool and savory-sweet. π§ Veal sweetbreads with chanterelles, king oyster mushrooms, and truffle β tender and earthy. π Eggplant pasta (chittara) with garlicky focaccia β perfectly cooked, though the plating could be cleaner. π Fried striped bass with pickled cabbage and caviar, plus garlic aioli on the side β light and balanced. π Shoulder tender (teres major) with grits β cooked sous-vide but underseasoned; needed the chili and grilled peach for flavor. πΏ Fennel sorbet palate cleanser β tasted artificial to me. π¦ Corn ice cream cone with a cherry on top β not too sweet, and absolutely delicious. The full summer tasting is $125 β great value, like Jeong. If you book between 5β6 PM, thereβs also a $65 early-bird menu with different options β worth returning for!
