The Soul of Nepal - Bhaktapur

1⃣️ Palace of 55 Windows ✨The main structure in Durbar Square is the old royal palace complex with 99 courtyards and the King's Harem: the Palace of 55 Windows. 🌟Built in 1700 AD, the walls are made of red bricks adorned with various carvings, including 55 windows carved from sandalwood. There was a queen who was unhappy being confined within the palace walls. 🌈To please her, the king ordered one side of the palace to be replaced with windows, totaling 55, allowing her to see the outside world without leaving the palace, similar to the behind the construction of the Wind Palace in Jaipur, India. 2⃣️ Peacock Window This is a wooden window originally built in the 15th century, featuring exquisite peacock carvings, hence the name Peacock Window. It is a symbol of the pinnacle of Malla dynasty wood carving. 3⃣️ Nyatapola Temple ✨This is one of the few buildings in the ancient city that requires you to look up and can feel somewhat oppressive. It stands 30 meters tall with 5 stories, with steps flanked by pairs of statues, from bottom to top they are: Vajras, elephants, lions, garudas, and celestial maidens. 4⃣️ Pashupatinath Temple The Pashupatinath Temple in the square is famous for its bold erotic wood carvings, but it is currently under reconstruction, and nothing can be seen at the moment. 5⃣️ Red Tara Temple 🩵As a sacred site of the Buddha of Light, Bhaktapur is believed by locals and Newar Buddhists to be the Buddha of Light. In Tibetan Buddhist literature, it is recorded as the Red Tara who spoke when the 8-year-old Jowo Buddha was brought into Tibet by Princess Chizun. 🩵The king chained it to prevent it from flying away, causing the Tara to bow its head and weep. Regardless, this is a very sacred Tara, a place that accomplished pilgrims must visit, and it is an extremely sacred place. #OffTheBeatenPathTravel #Nepal #Art #Architecture#Red Tara Temple# Bhaktapur#kathmandu# Nyatapola Temple# Peacock Window
