All about the National Public Housing Museum -------------------------------------------- The National Public Housing Museum (NPHM) opened its first permanent location on the Near West Side on April 4, 2025. The institute’s mission is to archive, preserve, and share the stories of public housing residents in Chicago. Located within the last remaining building of the historic Jane Addams housing project, the museum showcases a range of artifacts and immersive exhibits. Visitors can explore historic recreations of public housing units through the “Historic Apartments” installation. The guided tour provides viewers with an intimate look into everyday life within Chicago public housing complexes between 1938 and 1975. Other exhibits include an outdoor 40-foot mural, a sculpture garden, and even a vinyl record collection featuring music from public housing. Plan your visit --------------- The NPHM is open Wednesday-Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets start at $25 for adults and $15 for students, seniors, and children. The museum offers parking and is walking distance from the Racine Blue Line and Polk Pink Line CTA stations.
