What can I say? Prata is life! Casuarina is one of those prata places etched into the Singapore public consciousness. When you are in the vicinity, and have 10 minutes to spare, it's not a crime to swing by for a quick Prata snack and Kopi caffeine boost (the service is really Quick!) Or if it's a bigger outing with the family, this place is spacious enough to accommodate huge groups. Or if it's a late night binge and chit chat session with old buddies over teh tarik, Causaurina is yet another perfect option. I must warn that parking is notoriously limited especially during popular times, so plan ahead. The food itself has its moments: when it's good, it's really really good. When it's not, well... You forgive and understand that end of the day, prata again like life has it's ups and downs. It's just prata. My usual order is an egg prata and a plaster (egg hot "plastered" onto a prata), and again and again thinking not to over indulge I find myself ordering an extra plain prata. So crispy so good. My friends like the heavier options of mushroom cheese pratas, also tasty and made fresh. The most important element is the curry, here you can be assured that you are getting thick, flavorful, prata enhancing curries. To boost your prata pleasure, order a side of fried chicken and curry chicken. I've tried the other staples on the menu too: nasi goreng, mee goreng, maggi mee goreng, soup kambing. All worth a try to suss out what would ultimately be your favorite. Lastly, I like to take a moment to appreciate just how interesting a plate of prata looks. Like an abstract art beckoning...
Read moreUsed to be my top prata go-to choice since it opened more than 10 years ago. However, quality has dropped drastically in recent years which prompted me to write this review after giving this place one too many chances to redeem itself. Last time, if anyone asked my fave prata I would say Casuarina. Sad to say, this is no longer the case.
Went a few times on weekdays & weekends brunch, and prata served was cold as it is bulked produced to keep up with the crowd dropping by from their morning exercises around the area. Even with this, service can be slow and inconsistent i.e., other people who ordered after you getting their pratas served first. Imagine waiting for 15 to 20 minutes only to get your pratas served cold to you.
Wanting to avoid having cold prata served to us again, we decided to strategise and go during non peak i.e., dinner. This time prata was served hot (thank god) as it was made to order BUT all the currys incl the curry/dal for the dosai we ordered was cold. They just can't get it right anymore.
What a disappointment. Its only downhill from here for Causarina if they continue to rest on their laurals and depend on their once good reputation.
There are much nicer prata, and prata curry around the area worth your money instead i.e. Al Rahman Banana Leaf Indian Muslim Food at block 603 Ang Mo Kio Ave 5, or Sin Ming Prata at Upper Thomson. All the prata and prata curry is served hot. Theres also much depth to the...
Read moreOn 18/04/25 around 2230hrs, my family patronised this outlet as we had fond memories there a few years back. To our dismay, we experienced one of the most horrendous customer service thus far.
TLDR context: we had 6pax and the only tables left were for 4 pax, hence we asked the cashier if we could combine one of the tables. He agreed, and we did so outside. We re-arranged, staff said we could only arrange parallel to the road (means we’d all be facing the road while seated side-by-side) and we eventually got pushed to sit at another table where all 6 of us had to face the road while eating (weird layout). We decided to just split tables 4 x 2 in the end. Lady staff mentioned customers have complained that customers have complained of spacial obstruction, but to be fair it’s already late and there were barely any customers when we were there. So there was honestly no need to keep shifting us around when the place is not even crowded.
Food: Standard was subpar - Springleaf does their fish curry and tissue prata better with more effort and of quality. Our tissue prata was overly thin, soggy, flimsy, soft (not even crispy) - truly the worst one I’ve experienced in a long while.
Patronise this outlet at your own risk and do not walk in with high expectations. Personally feel Springleaf produces better quality food and service...
