Okay rice, but a really bad experience with the service
I went to this rice restaurant in Andorra with some friends. The rice itself was decent, no real complaints there, but the whole dinner was soured by a really disappointing experience with the service.
The menu said the rice dishes were “minimum two people,” and it also mentioned “half portions,” so since there were four of us, we ordered two different rice dishes to share. In English, that’s all it said. But apparently in Catalan, it stated that the price was per person: which none of us spoke or understood. The waiters never clarified this either.
When the bill came, it was way more than we expected. We brought it up, and they basically told us it was our fault for not asking. Sorry, but that’s not how this should work. It’s their job to explain that, especially when it’s clear the customers don’t speak the local language. They’re supposed to be the experts representing the restaurant.
Honestly, it felt like they took advantage of the fact that we were foreigners. So here’s my warning: if you go, make sure you explicitly ask how much each rice dish costs and whether it’s priced per person or per portion… because they won’t tell you unless you ask.
It’s a shame, because the food itself...
Read moreThe place is very small, on the side of a church, off the touristic routes. So you definitely need to come here on purpose otherwise you will have no chances to find it (unless you were after the church). And we came over to taste some of their tapas over a suggestion of a merchant.
It's a kind of family run business, intimate to a degree. Food is genuinely fresh, including paella whose overall taste wasn't necessarily the best; considering the Catalan tradition in Andorra, I was expecting better, especially for the overrated price (17.90 euro each portion).
The grilled vegetables with sea salt were good, the home made "mum style" croquettes were nothing worth a second portion.
Wine was good, but again a small calice for 4.5 euro was too excessive. I'm not going to pay that much even in Paris as far as I can tell.
The service was good, and toilet was clean.
So far I'm not sure I'm in a position...
Read moreThe service was a bit on the poor side. The waiter did not greet us and seemed to be annoyed when we waited for a table for 2. Then we were seated and were ignored for about 15 minutes until the owner of the establishment came to serve us. The seafood paella however was superb! And the wine was a perfect match. Food was excellent, the wait was too long, service eventually was ok. We had to wait a bit too long for the bill as well. 2 stars for service, but 5 stars for the food.
Edit: Here again a little over a year later. The waiter that had served us last time is probably fired. Much friendlier staff now with a much warmer and accommodating welcome. We came back for the seafood paella, which was almost as good as the last time, so there is some consistency here....
